Kokonaisten rakennusten energiamallintaminen kuukausi- ja tuntitasolla
2014
Tässä työssä kehitettiin kaksi rakennusten energiavirtausten mallintamiseen soveltuvaa laskentamenetelmää, joista toinen on kuukausitason laskentajaksoon perustuva karkea menetelmä ja toinen perustuu tuntitason laskentajaksoon. Menetelmissä otetaan huomioon ympäristön vaikutus, taloteknisten laitteiden toiminta ja rakenteiden termodynaamiset ominaisuudet, joiden perusteella voidaan laskea rakennuksen lämmitysenergiantarve (molemmat menetelmät) ja yksittäisen tilan sisälämpötila tunnin tarkkuudella (tuntimenetelmä). Menetelmät testattiin ANSI/ASHRAE Standardin 140-2011 ja EN ISO 13792 mukaisesti. EN 13792 testeissä mallinnetaan yksittäisen huoneen sisälämpötila tuntitasolla annetuilla rakent…
The guanxi ties of managers in mainland China – a critical analysis based on gender
2018
Purpose Inadequate social networks are often seen as an explanation of the under-representation of women in management. Networks contain culture-specific features, as in China where the term guanxi is used, defined as a shared common identification held by two or more individuals (Jacobs, 1979). In several studies, guanxi has been found to relate positively to success at work both for the individual and the organization, but little is known about it from gender and career perspectives. Referring especially to the earlier studies by Chow and Ng (2004), the purpose of this paper is to address the meaning of guanxi networks for top women IT managers in mainland China. Design/methodology/appro…
Vertaileva tutkimus nais- ja miesjohtajien uramenestyksestä liikunta-alalla
2018
The purpose of this study is to describe and compare upper-level sport managers’ career success, career success variables and the associations between them. The perspective of gender equality is used. Three indicators of objective and subjective career success are used: pay (objective), career success satisfaction, and the balance between work and family/private life (subjective). The specific variables are divided into five different categories: sociodemographic, human capital, social support, organisational, and sports specific. The data (n=329) for this quantitative cross- sectional study were collected by means of an internet questionnaire sent out to public and non-governmental sports …

Sport burnout inventory - dual career form for student-athletes : assessing validity and reliability in a finnish sample of adolescent athletes
2020
The pressure of pursuing an athletic career simultaneously with education may set adolescent student-athletes at risk for sport and school burnout. Although the 2 life domains of student-athletes are strongly intertwined, so far, there has not been an instrument for investigating sport burnout parallel to school burnout. The aim of the present study was to introduce a sport burnout measure for adolescents in a dual career context and investigate its validity and reliability by using confirmatory factor analysis. Methods The participants were 391 student-athletes (51% females) who filled in a questionnaire of sport burnout and background variables in the beginning of upper secondary school. …
Does ICT Usage Erode Routine Occupations at the Firm Level?
2019
We present decompositions and regression analyses that evaluate the routinization hypothesis and occupational polarization at the firm level. We establish two important facts. First, the results for the increasing abstract and declining routine occupation shares of total wage bill are consistent with the routinization hypothesis at the firm level. Second, the observed changes coincide with the usage of ICT in firms. This implies that disappearing middle-level (routine) work can be traced to firm-level technological change. Peer reviewed
Data from: Continental-scale patterns of pathogen prevalence: a case study on the corncrake
2014
Pathogen infections can represent a substantial threat to wild populations, especially those already limited in size. To determine how much variation in the pathogens observed among fragmented populations is caused by ecological factors, one needs to examine systems where host genetic diversity is consistent among the populations, thus controlling for any potentially confounding genetic effects. Here, we report geographic variation in haemosporidian infection among European populations of corncrake. This species now occurs in fragmented populations, but there is little genetic structure and equally high levels of genetic diversity among these populations. We observed a longitudinal gradient…
