Bayesian inference of the fluctuating proton shape

Using Bayesian inference, we determine probabilistic constraints on the parameters describing the fluctuating structure of protons at high energy. We employ the color glass condensate framework supplemented with a model for the spatial structure of the proton, along with experimental data from the ZEUS and H1 Collaborations on coherent and incoherent diffractive $\mathrm{J}/\psi$ production in e+p collisions at HERA. This data is found to constrain most model parameters well. This work sets the stage for future global analyses, including experimental data from e+p, p+p, and p+A collisions, to constrain the fluctuating structure of nucleons along with properties of the final state.

Electronic Structures and Spectroscopic Properties of 6π-Electron Ring Molecules and Ions E2N2 and E42+ (E = S, Se, Te)

The electronic structures and molecular properties of square-planar 6π-electron ring molecules and ions E2N2 and E42+ (E = S, Se, Te) were studied using various ab initio methods and density functionals. All species were found to contain singlet diradical character in their electronic structures. Detailed analysis of the CAS wave function of S2N2 in terms of different valence bond structures gives the largest weight for a Lewis-type singlet diradical VB structure in which the two unpaired electrons reside on nitrogen atoms, though the relative importance of the different VB structures is highly dependent on the level of theory. Integrating insights from new institutional  economics and studies on the collapse of past empires, we sketch a process model that links economic degrowth to the collapse of institutional orders. Our thought experiment starts from emphasizing the importance of institutions and enforcement mechanisms in maintaining a sufficient level of economic activity to sustain public costs. Within and between firm trends in job polarization : the roles of globalization and technology

AbstractWe analyze occupational polarization within and across firms using a census of matched employer–employee panel data from Finland in the period of 2000–2014. As in most industrialized countries, the Finnish occupational distribution has polarized over the last decades. Using decomposition analysis, we find that jobs involving low-level service tasks increase mostly through the entry dynamics, while the high-level abstract task share increases largely within continuing firms. Worker-level occupational mobility points to some skill upgrading within continuing firms, while labor force entry and retirement contribute the polarizing trend. Bottom-up design of functional device components based on nanometer-sized building blocks relies on accurate control of their self-assembly behavior. Atom-precise metal nanoclusters are well-characterizable building blocks for designing tunable nanomaterials, but it has been challenging to achieve directed assembly to macroscopic functional cluster-based materials with highly anisotropic properties.
