Electronic and vibrational spectroscopic studies of gold-nanoclusters

Gold nanoclusters are a peculiar new material with properties between that of bulk metal and single atoms. They show size-dependent evolution of optical and electronic properties sensitive to the change of single atom or single electron in the system. Understanding the relationship between structure and properties is important to both fundamental scientific question of the role of the quantum size effects in small metal-clusters, and to application of nanoclusters in e.g. photonics, nanoelectronics, and heterogeneous catalysis. A synthetic protocol for the tert-butyl-substituted dichalcogenoimidodiphosphinates [Na(tmeda){(EPtBu2)2N}] (3 a, E=S; 3 b, E=Se; 3 c, E=Te) has been developed. The one-electron oxidation of the sodium complexes [Na(tmeda){(EPR2)2N}] with iodine produces a series of neutral dimers (EPR2NPR2E[BOND])2 (4 b, E=Se, R=iPr; 4 c, E=Te, R=iPr; 5 a, E=S, R=tBu; 5 b, E=Se, R=tBu; 5 c, E=Te, R=tBu). Attempts to prepare 4 a (E=S, R=iPr) in a similar manner produced a mixture including HN(SPiPr2). Kokopäiväpedagogiikka on noussut keskeiseksi toimintatavaksi suomalaisissa päiväkodeissa. Se on myös useissa paikallisissa varhaiskasvatussuunnitelmissa toiminnan lähtökohtana, vaikka käsitteen tieteellinen määrittely on kesken ja käytännön tulkinnat vaihtelevat. Crystalline wax coverage of the imaginal cuticule in Calopteryx splendens (Odonata: Calopterygidae)

In this study we use high resolution SEM to describe the diversity of wax crystals and their distribution on different morphological structures in male individuals of Calopteryx splendens. The entire cuticle surface of this damselfly, with the exception of ommatidia and ocelli, is covered with crystalline wax in dimensions from submicron to micron range. It is shown that shape – rod-like, plate like, filamentous, etc. –, size, and density of crystals vary on different surfaces and in individuals of different ages.
