High-Resolution Stimulated Raman Spectroscopy of Methane 13CD4 in the Pentad Region

1988

Abstract We present the first Raman spectrum of 13CD4 recorded at room temperature in the pentad region by inverse Raman spectroscopy, thus including the ν1 (A1), 2ν2 (A1), 2ν4 (A1), and ν2 + ν4(F1 + F2) Q branches. It is noteworthy that the overtone bands 2ν2 and 2ν4 are observed for the first time in a methane-like molecule by a coherent Raman process. The wide frequency range investigated, covering 45 cm−1 in three parts, contains more than 300 lines with uncertainty less than 10−3 cm−1 in most cases. These Raman data are combined with high-resolution infrared data in a weighted least-squares fit of the vibration-rotation constants of the pentad, thanks to a relevant partially reduced ef…

Orthorhombic boron oxide under pressure: in situ study by X-ray diffraction and Raman scattering

2016

High-pressure phase of boron oxide, orthorhombic \b{eta}-B2O3, has been studied in situ by synchrotron X-ray diffraction to 22 GPa and Raman scattering to 46 GPa at room temperature. The bulk modulus of \b{eta}-B2O3 has been found to be 169(3) GPa that is in good agreement with our ab initio calculations. Raman and IR spectra of \b{eta}-B2O3 have been measured at ambient pressure, all experimentally observed bands have been attributed to the theoretically calculated ones, and the mode assignment has been performed. Based on the data on Raman shift as a function of pressure, combined with equation-of-state data, the Gr\"uneisen parameters of all experimentally observed Raman bands have been …

High-resolution stimulated Raman spectroscopy of O2

1992

Abstract The S S and O O branches of the fundamental vibrational band of molecular oxygen in its electronic ground state have been resolved for the first time in Raman spectroscopy. The spectra have been observed, at room temperature and low pressure, with a stimulated Raman scattering (S.R.S.) spectrometer including a multipass cell. From these accurate Raman data combined with microwave data, we have improved the values of the vibrational, rotational, spin-spin, and spin-rotation interactions constants in the v = 1 vibrational state. Moreover, Raman Q branches of the first and second hot-bands have been recorded, allowing us to determine a set of molecular parameters for the v = 2 and v =…

Resonance Raman of oxygen dangling bonds in amorphous silicon dioxide

2016

We investigate the origin of a resonance Raman band induced by ionizing radiation in amorphous silicon dioxide (silica glass), which can be detected under ultraviolet laser excitation. A silica sample, rich of oxygen-excess related defects, was prepared by treating some length of a pure-silica-core multimode fiber in an O2 atmosphere (at high temperature and pressure) and by irradiating it with X-rays at 10 MGy(SiO2) dose. A micro-Raman study revealed a gaussian band peaking at 896 cm−1 with a full width at half maximum of 32 cm−1, which could be detected by exciting the sample with the 325-nm line of a HeCd laser. This spectral feature is absent in the Raman spectra performed with the 442-…

Growth of glass-embedded Cu nanoparticles: A low-frequency Raman scattering study

2012

International audience; Several populations of Cu spherical nanoparticles grown in a silicate glass at different temperatures with respect to the glass transition temperature were studied using high-resolution, low-frequency Raman scattering and optical absorption. The analysis of the spectra shows that the annealing of the doped glass at temperatures close to T-g leads to the formation of metallic copper nanoparticles with high crystallinity, whereas lower-temperature and higher-temperature annealings result in the formation of poorer nanoparticle assemblies in terms of size distribution and/or nanocrystallinity. It is also shown that in the case where the optical data do not unambiguously…

Disorder-induced Raman scattering in rhenium trioxide (ReO3)

2007

Raman scattering in cubic metallic perovskite (ReO3) was studied at room temperature for well-crystallized monolith, polycrystalline powder and thin film samples. Defect-induced first-order Raman scattering was detected from the sub-surface region, given by the penetration depth of a 633 nm laser, and its origin was explained on the basis of a rigid-ion vibrational model for bulk ReO3. A quenching of the Raman intensity was observed in crystalline monolithic ReO3 upon increasing the temperature up to 250 °C and was related to crystal surface reconstruction/annealing.

Structural anisotropy and annealing-induced nanoscale atomic rearrangements in metamict titanite

2012

The structural state of metamict titanite was studied by Raman spectroscopy, complementary high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The results show that Raman scattering collected from metamict titanite is highly anisotropic, which is typical of single crystals. But surprisingly, the observed Raman-scattering dependence on the sample orientation is much more pronounced for heavily metamict than for weakly metamict titanite samples. These radiation-induced anisotropic effects are related to the specific atomic arrangements in metamict titanite. The Raman spectra collected in backscattering geometry from a plane nearly perpendicular to the chain…

Polarized multiplex coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering using a picosecond laser and a fiber supercontinuum

2011

International audience; We perform multiplex coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) micro-spectroscopy with a picosecond pulsed laser and a broadband supercontinuum (SC) generated in photonic crystal fiber. CARS signal stability is achieved using an active fiber coupler that avoids thermal and mechanical drifts. We obtain multiplex CARS spectra for test liquids in the 600–2000 cm−1 spectral range. In addition we investigate the polarization dependence of the CARS spectra when rotating the pump beam linear polarization state relative to the linearly polarized broad stokes SC. From these polarization measurements we deduce the Raman depolarization ratio, the resonant versus nonresonant …

Resonant Raman characterization of InAlGaN/GaN heterostructures

2006

InAlGaN/GaN heterostructures and thin films with In composition ranging from 0.03 to 0.1 are characterized by means of Raman scattering excited at various energies in the ultra violet range, tuning the laser excitation energy through the band gap of In x Al y Ga 1-x-y N. It is shown that the addition of In to the Al y Ga 1-y N alloy diminishes considerably the vibration energy of the A 1 (LO) phonon mode. The phonon line is asymmetric on the low energy side, and the asymmetry increases with In content, while the main peak shifts to lower energies. A shift of the phonon energy has also been observed when the excitation energy is close to the absorption edge of the In x Al y Ga 1-x-y N layer.…
