The present five-year longitudinal study from preschool to grade 3 examined the developmental associations among oral language comprehension, task orientation, reading precursors, and reading fluency, as well as their role in predicting grade 3 reading comprehension. Ninety Finnish-speaking students participated in the study. Associations Between Reading Skills, Interest in Reading, and Teaching Practices in First Grade

ABSTRACTThis study examined associations between classroom-level reading fluency, comprehension, interest in reading, and teaching practices. Participants were 466 children from 21 classrooms. Reading fluency and interest were assessed at the beginning and end of Grade 1, reading comprehension at the end of Grade 1. Teaching practices were observed with the Early Childhood Classroom Observation Measure (ECCOM). Teachers were more likely to use teacher-directed methods in classrooms where children had poorer initial reading fluency. Lai lasītu digitālajā vidē ir jāattīsta īpašas digitālās lasītprasmes, piemēram, navigācijas prasmes un pašregulācija. Lasīšanas stratēģijas palīdz pielietot un attīstīt digitālās lasīšanas prasmes. Diplomdarba mērķis bija noteikt, kā lasīšanas stratēģiju īstenošana attīsta digitālās lasītprasmes angļu valodas stundās 7. klasē. Izvēlētā pētījuma metode bija gadījuma izpēte. Datu vākšanas metodes bija skolēnu aptauja, intervijas ar diviem skolotājiem, lasīšanas nodarbību novērojumi, skolēnu grafikas organizatori un mājas uzdevumi. This thesis is in the form of a monograph consisting of three distinct, but related studies. The three studies examined Grade 1 teachers’ knowledge and perceptions of reading instruction in classrooms in Namibia; and the use of GraphoGame in Afrikaans as a digital learning tool and as an intervention tool for struggling readers. Three data sets were collected: teachers (N = 132), children (N = 202) and struggling readers (N = 19). The results offered three main findings. Research Findings: The purpose of the present study was to examine the extent to which the quality of teacher–child interactions and teachers’ self-reported curriculum emphases are related to children’s reading skill development during their 1st school year. To accomplish this, we assessed the reading skills of 1,029 Finnish children (M age = 85.77 months) twice during Grade 1, and the children’s teachers (n = 91) completed questionnaires concerning their literacy-related curriculum emphases. Lasīšanas prasmes tiek izmantotas, lai iegūtu un saglabātu informāciju un zināšanas. Tādēļ diplomdarba autore domā, ka skolēnu lasīšanas prasmes vajadzētu attīstīt sākumskolas angļu valodas stundās, piedaloties ievada uzdevumos. Pētījuma mērķis ir uzzināt, kā ievada uzdevumi palīdz jauniem skolēniem attīstīt viņu angļu valodas lasīšanas prasmes.
