From the perspective of reciprocal altruism, we examined the role of reciprocity in the close relationships of people inflicted with a spinal cord injury (SCI) ( n = 70). We focused on the help receiver rather than on the help giver. Participants perceived more reciprocity in relationships with friends than in relationships with the partner and with family members. In these last relationships, perceptions of indebtedness were more prevalent than perceptions of deprivation. However, most negative feelings were evoked by a lack of reciprocity in partner relationships, followed by family relationships, and next by friendships. The H reflex of flexor carpi radialis and radial-induced reciprocal inhibition were recorded in normal subjects during conditioning stimulation of the contralateral median or radial nerves. It was found that stimulation of the contralateral median nerve enhanced the degree of reciprocal inhibition exerted by the radial nerve on the median nerve, while contralateral radial nerve stimulation reduced the reciprocal inhibition exerted by the extensor on the flexor. The H reflex technique was used to evaluate the influence exerted by cortical conditioning on the excitability of the alpha-motoneurone pool and on IA interneuronal activity (reciprocal inhibition). In ten subjects at absolute rest electrical and magnetic stimulation of the motor cortex was transcranially applied during flexor carpi radialis H reflex eliciting and in conditions of reciprocal inhibition induced by radial nerve stimulation. The time courses showed that at intensities below motor threshold, electrical brain conditioning induced an increase in the amplitude of the test reflex when the cortical shock was given 4 ms after the test H reflex. Methods Participants (N = 1,722, age range 40–85 years, 55% women) were drawn from the Betula prospective cohort study. We included 4 waves of data. In this chapter, the spaces of periodic polynomial splines and the Spline Harmonic Analysis (SHA) in these spaces are briefly outlined. The stuff of this chapter is used for the design of periodic discrete-time splines and discrete-time-spline-based wavelets and wavelet packets. For a detailed description of the subject we refer to (Averbuch, Neittaanmaki and Zheludev, Spline and Spline Wavelet Methods with Applications to Signal and Image Processing, Springer, Berlin, 2014) [1]. The purpose of this paper is to shed some light on the polynomial identities of low degree for the n × n matrix algebra over a field of characteristic 0.Our main result is that we have found all the consequences of degree n + 2 of the standard polynomial have calculated the S n+2-character of the T-ideal generated by this polynomial.

Research Note: Reciprocal Effects of Negative Press Reports

A B S T R A C T ■ The influence of negative press reports on their subjects was determined by means of a questionnaire answered by 91 persons who had complained about such reports to the Deutsche Presserat (German Press Council). The findings show that negative press reports have long-lasting emotional and social consequences, as perceived by the subjects. Plausible interactions exist between these consequences. There is a theoretical basis for attributing both types of consequences to certain characteristics of the reports. ■
