On multi-objective optimal reconfiguration of MV networks in presence of different grounding
2015
The present work faces the traditional multi-objective optimal reconfiguration problem of a distribution grid including the safety issue in the objective functions. Actually, in many medium voltage networks still transformers with ungrounded neutral and with resonant grounded neutral coexist in the same area. This may be sometimes cause of problems during a single-line-to-ground fault if the ground electrodes of one or more cabins, initially designed for satisfying the safety conditions in a resonant grounded neutral network, after the reconfiguration are in a grounded neutral one or vice versa. In the paper a safety objective function is defined and the Non dominated Sorting Genetic Algori…
Dynamic programming and Munkres algorithm for optimal photovoltaic arrays reconfiguration
2015
Abstract In this paper, an original formulation of the control problem for optimal PV array reconfiguration, following a Total Cross Tied layout, is proposed. The formulation follows the well-known subset sum problem, which is a special case of the knapsack problem. The reconfiguration is a measure devoted to mitigate the mismatch effect and maximize the output power of small photovoltaic plants under non-homogeneous working conditions. Therefore, reconfiguration means changing the connections of the solar panels adaptively by a dynamic switching matrix. The control system implements an easy dynamic programming algorithm to change the switches layout. The use of the Munkres assignment metho…
A dynamic load-balancing algorithm for molecular dynamics simulation on multi-processor systems
1991
Abstract A new algorithm for dynamic load-balancing on multi-processor systems and its application to the molecular dynamics simulation of the spinodal phase separation are presented. The load-balancer is distributed among the processors and embedded in the application itself. Tests performed on a transputer network show that the load-balancer behaves almost ideally in this application. The same approach can be easily extended to different multi-processor topologies or applications.
Increasing efficiency of photovoltaic systems under non-homogeneous solar irradiation using improved Dynamic Programming methods
2017
Abstract The paper presents a complete technique, based on the combination of algorithms, devoted to minimize losses and increase efficiency of Total Cross Tied (TCT) connected photovoltaic (PV) systems under non-homogeneous solar irradiation, based on irradiance equalization criterion. Irradiance equalization is achieved by changing the connections of the solar panels adaptively by a dynamic switching matrix so that total solar radiation on parallel circuits is the most equalized. In this paper, the authors introduce two algorithms. The first one is SmartChoice (SC) algorithm, which is combined with Dynamic Programming (DP) in order to create a hybrid method and obtain better results as co…
A hierarchical architecture for increasing efficiency of large photovoltaic plants under non-homogeneous solar irradiation
2019
Abstract Under non-homogeneous solar irradiation, photovoltaic (PV) panels receive different solar irradiance, resulting in a decrease in efficiency of the PV generation system. There are a few technical options to fix this issue that goes under the name of mismatch. One of these is the reconfiguration of the PV generation system, namely changing the connections of the PV panels from the initial configuration to the optimal one. Such technique has been widely considered for small systems, due to the excessive number of required switches. In this paper, the authors propose a new method for increasing the efficiency of large PV systems under non-homogeneous solar irradiation using Series-Para…
Comparison between Different Dynamic Reconfigurations of Electrical Connections for partially shaded PV Modules
2018
This paper presents an economical investigation on the benefits related to the employment of reconfiguration systems for photovoltaic plants. More in detail, different structures of reconfigurators are proposed and, in order to evaluate the economical convenience on their installation, the Net Present Value is used as a validation element. Significant results are carried out from the proposed analysis.
Statechart-based design controllers for FPGA partial reconfiguration
2015
Statechart diagram and UML technique can be a vital part of early conceptual modeling. At the present time there is no much support in hardware design methodologies for reconfiguration features of reprogrammable devices. Authors try to bridge the gap between imprecise UML model and formal HDL description. The key concept in author's proposal is to describe the behavior of the digital controller by statechart diagrams and to map some parts of the behavior into reprogrammable logic by means of group of states which forms sequential automaton. The whole process is illustrated by the example with experimental results.
Fault Tolerant Routing Methodology for Mesh-of-Tree based Network-on-Chips using Local Reconfiguration
2018
Increase in the processing elements in a System-on- Chip (SoC) has led to an increasing complexity between the cores in the entire network. This communication bottleneck led to rise in the new paradigm called Network-on-Chip (NoC). These NoC are very much susceptible to various types of faults which can be transient, intermittent or permanent. This paper presents a fault-tolerant routing technique which can route the packets from a source to a destination in presence of permanent faults in the leaf routers of Mesh-of-Tree topology where cores are connected. This is achieved by using reconfiguration in the local ports of the leaf routers by inserting multiplexers as a layer between the leaf …
Architectural Implementation of a Reconfigurable NoC Design for Multi-Applications
2021
With the increasing number of applications running on a Network-on-Chip (NoC) based System-on-Chip (SoC), there is a need for designing a reconfigurable NoC platform to achieve acceptable performance for all the applications. This paper proposes a novel architecture for implementing a reconfiguration logic to the NoC platform executing multiple applications. The proposed architecture reconfigures SoC modules to the routers in the NoC with the help of tri-state buffers based on the applications running. The overhead in implementing the reconfiguration circuitry is significantly less, approximately 0.9% of the area and 1% of the total power consumed by the router network. The architectures pr…
Reconfiguration: a key to handle exceptions and performance deteriorations in manufacturing operations
2005
During a manufacturing operation, exceptions may occur dynamically and unpredictably. Their occurrence may lead to the degradation of system performance or, in the worst case scenario may interrupt the production process by causing errors in the schedule plan. This paper classifies three families of exceptions: (1) out-of-order events such as machine breakdowns, (2) operational out-of-ordinary events such as rush orders and (3) deteriorations of manufacturing resource performance such as reductions of machines' utilization. In all cases, in order to maintain an adequate level of system performance, it is necessary to detect exceptions, to diagnose them quickly and to recover them by taking …
