Reconstruction of the environmental evolution of a Sicilian saltmarsh (Italy)

The present study deals with the reconstruction of the environmental evolution of a Trapani saltmarsh (southwestern Sicily, Italy) by combining different analytical approaches such as metal content evaluation, low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) relaxometry, and benthic foraminifera identification. A 41 cm core was collected in the sediments of a Trapani saltmarsh (southwestern Sicily, Italy) at a water depth of about 50 cm. Gibellina is a city formed by orogenesis. It was reborn after a dramatic earthquake and shook the sediment off urban theory, becoming a city open to the world and to the worlds of contemporary culture; of architecture, art, theatre. To understand its revolutionary force, we must immerse ourselves in the context of 1968, when an earthquake hit the Belice Valley with a violence capable of damaging fourteen cities and razing four of them—including Gibellina— to the ground. The earthquake marked a sharp break in the historical continuity of the small, rural centre of Sicily. Il testo affronta lo studio di un’opera giovanile di Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda (1834-1911), figura di spicco del panorama architettonico in Sicilia tra la seconda metà dell’Ottocento ed i primi del Novecento. Il progetto del Gran Caffè, vincitore di prestigiosi riconoscimenti, anche se realizzato quando Damiani non era ancora trentenne, risulta molto maturo e segna una tappa importante nella formazione dell’architetto. L’obiettivo di questo studio è la ricostruzione e l’analisi di un progetto non realizzato: il Gran Cimitero di Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda (1834-1911), a partire dai suoi disegni originali, realizzati a matita, inchiostro e acquerello su cartoncino. Il progetto ha vinto la medaglia d’oro sia alla Prima Mostra Nazionale di Belle Arti di Firenze, nel 1861, sia alla Mostra di Sicilia di Belle Arti, nel 1863. La ricostruzione del modello tridimensionale è servita per dedurre elementi di interpretazione, quali l’impostazione modulare dell’intera composizione, e viste prospettiche, ombreggiate o renderizzate, elaborate cercando rendere visibili gli spazi immaginati nei disegni originali in proiezion…
The Thin bilateral and bipedicled DIEAP flap for axillary reconstruction in hidradenitis suppurativa

Reconstruction after resection of advanced stage hidradenitis suppurativa is currently performed with pedicled perforator flaps, that allow functional reconstruction and preservation of shoulder function. Skin availability is limited by the possibility of closing the donor site primarily. Bilateral cases need to be treated in two stages, since the operation is carried out in the lateral decubitus. Multiwavelet Frames Originated From Hermite Splines

The chapter presents a method for the construction of multiwavelet frame transform for manipulation of discrete-time signals. The frames are generated by three-channel perfect reconstruction oversampled multifilter banks. The design of the multifilter bank starts from a pair of interpolating multifilters, which originate from the cubic Hermite splines. The remaining multifilters are designed by factoring polyphase matrices. Input to the oversampled analysis multifilter bank is a vector-signal, which is derived from an initial scalar signal by one out of three pre-processing algorithms. The Nymphaeum of the Tritons at Hierapolis of Phrygia is a monumental fountain of the Roman period with an imposing marble façade. Within the activities of the Italian Archaeological Mission the Nymphaeum is currently being studied by a team from the University of Messina with the goal of understanding its original layout and its history. The starting point of the study is the wealth of data provided by stratigraphic excavation of the building, particularly by the extensive archaeological deposits formed by the blocks of the façade collapsed into the pool of the fountain following an earthquake in the 7th century AD. Brane-world and loop cosmology from a gravity–matter coupling perspective

We show that the effective brane-world and the loop quantum cosmology background expansion histories can be reproduced from a modified gravity perspective in terms of an $f(R)$ gravity action plus a $g(R)$ term non-minimally coupled with the matter Lagrangian. The reconstruction algorithm that we provide depends on a free function of the matter density that must be specified in each case and allows to obtain analytical solutions always. In the simplest cases, the function $f(R)$ is quadratic in the Ricci scalar, $R$, whereas $g(R)$ is linear. Our approach is compared with recent results in the literature. The landscape is commonly defined as the set of physical and historical-anthropological characters expressed by a territory. Our re-elaboration defines the landscape as the set of perceivable characters of a territory expressed in relation to the stratification of the occurred natural and cultural processes. The Grand Tour reports are one of the most effective means to fix at least one stage of evolution from the Sicilian landscape, before its further transformation.
