New fitting scheme to obtain effective potential from Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics simulations: Application to silica

A fitting scheme is proposed to obtain effective potentials from Car-Parrinello molecular dynamics (CPMD) simulations. It is used to parameterize a new pair potential for silica. MD simulations with this new potential are done to determine structural and dynamic properties and to compare these properties to those obtained from CPMD and a MD simulation using the so-called BKS potential. The new potential reproduces accurately the liquid structure generated by the CPMD trajectories, the experimental activation energies for the self-diffusion constants and the experimental density of amorphous silica. The use of error-correcting codes protects data against accidental or intentional errors, but to what extent can a decoded message be trusted? To answer this question, one has to take the role of the receiver. First, the maximum number of errors Lambda acceptable for decoding is fixed. With the weight distribution, the probability of false decoding can be calculated, conditioned on such a Lambda-bounded strategy. The efficiency of dithionite bleaching of Norway spruce (Picea abies) thermomechanical pulp was studied by applying various multivariate data analysis techniques to analytical data (temperature, pH, ion chromatographic and energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence data). In addition, modeling the residual sulfur content of bleached pulp by means of diffuse reflectance UV-vis spectral data from laboratory-scale bleaching experiments was attempted. Spectroscopic signatures of the carbon buckyonions C60@C180 and C60@C240: a dispersion-corrected DFT study

We have investigated, using dispersion corrected DFT methods, the structure and the spectroscopic properties of carbon buckyonions C-60@C-180 and C-60@C-240. C-60, C-180 and C-240 showed a noticeable variation of their geometries in C-60@C-180 and C-60@C-240, upon encapsulation. Inclusion of the dispersion correction term in the calculations has a significant effect on the geometry. C-60@C-180 has a large positive interaction energy, while for C-60@C-240 a negative value is found indicating that only C-240 can easily accommodate C-60. A procedure is presented for image correction of scanning probe microscopy data that is distorted by linear thermal drift. The procedure is based on common ideas for drift correction, which the authors combine to a comprehensive step-by-step description of how to measure drift velocities in all three dimensions and how to correct the images using these velocities. The presented method does not require any knowledge about size or shape of the imaged structures. Thus, it is applicable to any type of scanning probe microscopy image, including images lacking periodic structures.
