Cost benefits of flexible hybrid cloud storage : Mitigating volume variation with shorter acquisition cycle

The hybrid cloud storage is investigated as a case of concurrent sourcing.The paper introduces an analytical model for hybrid cloud storage costs.We study the role of acquisition cycle and volume variation in hybrid cloud costs.Shortening the reassessment interval reduces the volume non-stationarity.Shortening the reassessment interval reduces the total hybrid costs. Hybrid cloud storage combines cost-effective but inflexible private storage along with flexible but premium-priced public cloud storage. Re-analysis of fatigue data for welded joints using the notch stress approach

Abstract Experimental fatigue data for welded joints have been collected and subjected to re-analysis using the notch stress approach according to IIW recommendations. This leads to an overview regarding the reliability of the approach, based on a large number of results (767 specimens). Evidently, there are some limitations in the approach regarding mild notch joints, such as butt joints, which can be assessed non-conservatively. In order to alleviate this problem, an increased minimum notch factor of Kw ⩾ 2.0 is suggested instead of the current recommendation of Kw ⩾ 1.6. Abstract A new way of assessment of the state of a granular mixture is presented in this paper. It is based on the method of statistical reduction and it enables a more precise assessment to be made of the state of a grain mixture as compared with other methods, especially when the mixture represents a large population. Calculation of the characteristic impedance of microstrips using a full-wave 2-D FDTD scheme

The frequency dependence of the characteristic impedance of microstrip lines has been investigated by many authors using 3D-FDTD formulations. In the present letter, a two-dimensional FDTD scheme is used to calculate both the propagation constant and the characteristic impedance of the fundamental quasi-TEM mode in a microstrip which, in fact, is a hybrid mode. Because of the substantial reduction of computer resources required for the calculations, this method can be used as a design tool. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
