Sicily’s fold–thrust belt and slab roll-back: the SI.RI.PRO. seismic crustal transect

Sicily is a thick orogenic wedge formed by (1) the foreland (African) and its Sicilian orogen and (2) the thick-skinned, Calabrian–Peloritani wedge. The crust under central Sicily, from the Tyrrhenian margin to the coastline of the Sicily Channel, has been investigated by the multidisciplinary (SI.RI.PRO.) research project. The project dealt with the nature and thickness of the crust and depth and geometry of the Moho, which is essential in formulating subduction models and improving the knowledge of African and Tyrrhenian–European lithospheres. This reflection addresses a very important topic for care professions, with a special look at psychotherapy. To clarify the role of subjectivity and the birth and maturation of a professional role, I will present an analysis of a literary text through which it will be easier to find out how the identity of a professional role is formed and starts to mature and get codified. In particular, what are the risks associated with its rigid codification to its technical normative? I intend to draw a comparison with some subjectivity building forms that have founded the Western human’s model in its professional articulations over the centuries.

A penetration depth study on the non-centrosymmetric superconductors Li2(Pd1−xPtx)3B

Abstract We study the superconducting order parameter in the non-centrosymmetric compounds Li 2 (Pd 1− x Pt x ) 3 B ( x =0, 0.3, 0.7 and 1) by measuring magnetic penetration depth λ ( T ). The low temperature λ ( T ) shows a linear temperature dependence for x ⩾0.3, but follows exponential-like behavior for lower Pt contents. These findings suggest that a spin-triplet state might gradually develop with increasing x due to the broken inversion symmetry.

Andreev Reflection at Point Contacts with Heavy-FermionUBe13?

We comment on a recent Letter by Waelti et al. (PRL 84, 5616 (2000)) on 'Spectroscopic evidence for unconventional superconductivity in UBe13'. We show - by using the basic Wexler formula - that it is unlikely to observe Andreev reflection at point contacts between UBe13 and a normal metal. The large superconducting anomalies usually found for those contacts are mainly due to the resistive Maxwell resistance vanishing below Tc of UBe13.

Nonlocal pure spin current injection via quantum pumping and crossed Andreev reflection

A pure spin current injector is proposed based on adiabatic pumping and crossed normal/Andreev reflection. The device consists of a three-terminal ferromagnet-superconductor-semiconductor system in which the injection of a pure spin current is into the semiconductor which is coupled to the superconductor within a coherence length away from the ferromagnet enabling the phenomena of crossed normal /Andreev reflection to operate. Quantum pumping is induced by adiabatically modulating two independent parameters of the ferromagnetic lead, namely the magnetization strength and the strength of coupling between the ferromagnet and the superconductor. Ordered structures of DNA on Au(110)

2008

Reflection Anisotropy Spectroscopy (RAS) is used to confirm that both single stranded (ss) and double stranded (ds) DNA formed ordered structures when adsorbed at Au(110)/phosphate buffer interface. The variation of the spectral intensity shows a cos 2θ dependence on the angle θ, which lies between the electric vector of the incident polarised light and the optical axes of the surface plane of the Au(110) establishing that the optical axes of both molecules are aligned with those of the Au(110) surface. Three-dimensional (3D) digitization of manufactured objects has been investigated for several years and consequently, many techniques have been proposed. Even if some techniques have been successfully commercialized, most of them assume a diffuse or near diffuse reflectance of the object’s surface, and difficulties remain for the acquisition of “optically non cooperative” surfaces, such as transparent or specular ones. Evaluation of the orientation distribution of fibers from reflection images of fibrous samples

We consider illumination systems and mathematical algorithms for determination of the anisotropy and topographical features of an illuminated surface from its reflection images. As a particular example we study determination of the fiber orientation of paper surface. We also consider illumination systems with multiple light sources, and introduce optimization algorithms that exploit different spectral bands of these light sources. We show that a system of three light sources, e.g., a blue, green and red LED placed in a regular triangular form, efficiently prevents distortion of the above features. La Responsabilidad Social de la Educación Superior como Bien Común. Concepto y desafíos

Este artículo atiende al planteamiento de la Unesco de considerar como bien común a la Educación Superior, en un momento en que las Instituciones de Educación Superior están inmersas en procesos caracterizados por una progresiva mercantilización del conocimiento que condiciona el acceso a la financiación por posicionamiento en rankings internacionales, poniendo en riesgo el objeto de contribuir a un desarrollo sostenible en sus contextos. Mediante un particular análisis de aspectos relacionados con la Responsabilidad Social y la relación con los grupos de interés, se realiza una contribución a la reflexión teórica y a los desafíos para conceptualizar la Educación Superior como un bien común.
