Ricerca-formazione nel Service e-Learning: significare l’esperienza attraverso la scrittura riflessiva e immaginativa in rete
2023
This paper analyses a Service e-Learning course carried out at the University of Palermo, in the academic year 2022/23, with 260 students enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor of Science in Primary Education (LM-85bis), in order to describe and understand how this pedagogical research-training approach can determine professional development by supporting critical reflection and self-assessment processes. Specifically, the investigation aims to explore on the one hand, the perspective of reflective and imaginative writing as a useful critical-reflexive device aimed at supporting emancipative learning processes, and, on the other, the idea that the learner is perpetually under constructi…
Social Workers’ Reflections on Forced Migration and Cultural Diversity : Towards Anti-Oppressive Expertise in Child and Family Social Work
2021
Social work in Finland, like in many other countries, has faced various challenges after the large scale of forced migration in 2015. Although working with migrants is not a new area in social work, the exceptionally large amount of asylum seekers in the Finnish society caused a need for improved social work expertise. Our article deals with Finnish social work practitioners’ reflections on multicultural, multilingual and transnational issues with a client group, which is in a vulnerable situation after forced or other forms of migration. The practitioners participating in our study have either attended a specializing education of child, youth and family social work or taken part in peer gr…
Predicting sugar consumption : Application of an integrated dual-process, dual-phase model
2017
Excess consumption of added dietary sugars is related to multiple metabolic problems and adverse health conditions. Identifying the modifiable social cognitive and motivational constructs that predict sugar consumption is important to inform behavioral interventions aimed at reducing sugar intake. We tested the efficacy of an integrated dual-process, dual-phase model derived from multiple theories to predict sugar consumption. Using a prospective design, university students (N = 90) completed initial measures of the reflective (autonomous and controlled motivation, intentions, attitudes, subjective norm, perceived behavioral control), impulsive (implicit attitudes), volitional (action and c…
How Students Get Going : Triggers for Students’ Learning in Project-Based Education
2018
Repeatedly documented positive student responses to project-based learning during its decades-long tradition in CS attest to the effectiveness of learning by doing. Support for reflective learning nevertheless continues to be a topic worth studying because the intensity of project work together with a high technical orientation among CS students often complicate reflective practice. A critical incident-inspired assignment was added to a project-based course to support reflective practice in spring 2017. In a previous study, the authors analyzed how students approached the assignment and whether they found it supportive for learning. The present study content-analyses the situations that tri…
Preservice teachers’ training through microteaching experience
2020
The efficient teaching and the reflexive one were long recognized as desirable purposes of teachers’ training programs. Several studies demonstrated that simulated experiences inside university paths are suitable means to achieve that aim to have prepared teachers to become efficient and reflexive teachers. One of the methods more common to provide experience for teachers in training is microteaching. The video-registration and the methodologies that use of it are increasingly used in the professional training of future teachers. The teacher's professionalism requests, in addition to theoretical or disciplinary knowledge, the ability to mobilize knowledge to organize effective responses to …

Self-reported reflective functioning mediates the association between attachment insecurity and well-being among psychotherapists.
2020
Objective: Subjective well-being is a crucial variable for mental health practitioners. This study examines the influence of therapists’ attachment dimensions and self-reported reflective functioning on their perceived well-being. Further, it examines if reflective functioning mediates the association between attachment insecurity and well-being. Method: A total of 416 experienced psychotherapists were enrolled in this cross-sectional study, and completed self-report measures of attachment insecurity, reflective functioning, and well-being. We tested the hypothesized mediation model with path analysis that examined indirect effects. Results: Both attachment anxiety and avoidance dimensions …
In Pursuit of Measuring Pre-reflective Music Listening Experiences
2022
While the diverse effects and uses of music and sound have been extensively documented within music psychology, relatively little attention has been paid to the process and experience of listening itself. Previous literature have, however, considered different ways of attending to sounds via the concept of listening modes, which highlights the different ways and strategies through which listeners intentionally orientate themselves to the activity of listening and creating the experiential meaning of the sound. In this paper, we continue on these lines by focusing on the very basic attentional dispositions for listening that often remain unconscious. As op posed to more deliberate and intent…
