Novel Method of Preparation of Gold-Nanoparticle-Doped TiO2 and SiO2 Plasmonic Thin Films: Optical Characterization and Comparison with Maxwell-Garne…

2011

SiO2 and TiO2 thin films with gold nanoparticles (NPs) are of particular interest as photovoltaic materials. A novel method for the preparation of spin-coated SiO2–Au and TiO2–Au nanocomposites is presented. This fast and inexpensive method, which includes three separate stages, is based on the in situ synthesis of both the metal-oxide matrix and the Au NPs during a baking process at relatively low temperature. It allows the formation of nanocomposite thin films with a higher concentration of Au NPs than other methods. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy studies revealed a homogeneous distribution of NPs over the film volume along with their narrow size distribution. The optica…

Photoconductivity and optical properties of silicon coated by thin TiO2 film in situ doped by Au nanoparticles

2013

Light trapping enhancement by plasmonic-active metal nanoparticles (NPs) is believed to be a promising approach to increase silicon-based solar cell efficiency. Therefore, we investigated TiO2 films in situ doped by Au NPs (TiO2:AuNPs) deposited by spin coating on a silicon substrate. Photoconductivity and optical properties of the TiO2:AuNPs/Si structures were studied in comparison with those of TiO2/Si reference samples. We found that an introduction of the 40–50 nm diameter AuNPs into the antireflective TiO2 layer deteriorates the antireflection properties and decreases the external yield of photogeneration of charge carriers. This is due to an increase of the layer reflection in the red…

Plasmonic layers based on Au-nanoparticle-doped TiO2 for optoelectronics: structural and optical properties.

2013

The anti-reflective effect of dielectric coatings used in silicon solar cells has traditionally been the subject of intensive studies and practical applications. In recent years the interest has permanently grown in plasmonic layers based on metal nanoparticles, which are shown to increase light trapping in the underlying silicon. In the present work we have combined these two concepts by means of in situ synthesis of Au nanoparticles in a dielectric matrix (TiO2), which is commonly used as an anti-reflective coating in silicon solar cells, and added the third element: a 10–20% porosity in the matrix. The porosity is formed by means of a controllable wet etching by low concentration HF. As …

Metacognitive Awareness Teaching Tool Kit (MATTK). Reflective teaching for critical thinking and creativity development in classroom.

2016

Situation awareness has long been recognized as an important variable in teacher performance. Research to date has focused on identifying characteristics of situation awareness for individuals, not on the behaviors and processes associated with situation awareness. The purpose of this review is to delineate and identify characteristics of teacher metacognitive awareness. In addition, implications are discussed and research questions are outlined that target the measurement and training of situation awareness. The research has examined the positive correlation between the meta cognitive awareness of teachers and the development of two soft skills (critical thinking and creativity) in student…

What is person-centred care in dementia? Clinical reviews into practice: the development of the VIPS practice model

2013

SummaryThe VIPS framework is a four-part definition of person-centred care for people with dementia (PCC), which arose out of an earlier review article for this journal. The definition has assisted in the practical application of person-centred care. It has been operationalized into the VIPS practice model (VPM), which has been subject to a recent randomized controlled trial within Norwegian nursing homes. The VPM provided a vehicle for the VIPS framework to be utilized during reflective practice meetings focusing on understanding care situations from the perspective of residents with moderate to severe dementia. VPM incorporated an education and coaching approach, clearly defined staff rol…

Effective collecting area of lobster eye optics and optimal value of effective angle

2019

Effective collecting area represents one of principal parameters of optical systems. The common requirement is to obtain as large effective collecting area as it is possible. The paper presents an analytical method of calculating effective collecting length and its maximization for lobster eye optics. The results are applicable for a Schmidt as well as for an Angel lobster eye geometry used in an astronomical telescope where the source is at infinity such that the incoming rays are parallel. The dependence of effective collecting area vs. geometrical parameters is presented in a form of a simple compact equation. We show that the optimal ratio between mirrors depth and distance (effective a…

A multi-componential methodology for exploring emotions in learning

2018

Studies on emotions in learning are often based on interviews conducted after the learning. Therefore, these do not capture the multi-componential nature of emotions and how emotions are related to the process of learning. We see emotions as dimensional and multi-componential responses to a personally meaningful events and situation. In this methodologically frontline study we developed a multi-componential methodology, which provides complementary information about emotions during learning. In this study, by using a within subject design of one person, we focused on emotions during the professional identity learning. In a laboratory setting, the subject was shown personally meaningful vide…

On the condition number of the antireflective transform

2010

Abstract Deconvolution problems with a finite observation window require appropriate models of the unknown signal in order to guarantee uniqueness of the solution. For this purpose it has recently been suggested to impose some kind of antireflectivity of the signal. With this constraint, the deconvolution problem can be solved with an appropriate modification of the fast sine transform, provided that the convolution kernel is symmetric. The corresponding transformation is called the antireflective transform. In this work we determine the condition number of the antireflective transform to first order, and use this to show that the so-called reblurring variant of Tikhonov regularization for …

Zilo gaismu bloķējošo lēcu ietekme uz kontrastjutību

2018
