Evaluation of horizontal ridge augmentation using beta tricalcium phosphate and demineralized bone matrix: A comparative study

2013

Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of beta tricalcium phosphate (Beta-TCP) alone compared to Beta-TCP and Demineralized Bone Matrix (DBM) in regenerating localized horizontal maxillary alveolar ridge deficiencies prior to implant placement. Study Design: The study included 20 patients with horizontal maxillary ridge deficiencies limited to one or more neighbouring teeth and initial ridge width of . 5mmm. Patients were divided equally into two equal groups. Ridge augmentation was performed using Guided Bone Regeneration (GBR) principals. In group I GBR was performed using Beta-TCP only, while in group II both Beta-TCP and DBM were used. Following a 6 months healing period, bone cores …

Role of cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) in diagnosis and treatment planning of two-rooted maxillary lateral incisor with palatogingival groove. …

2020

Background: The embryonic root groove is an anatomical abnormality that starts in the cingulum and extends longitudinally down the long axis root towards the apex. This developmental anomaly is more frequently reported in maxillary lateral incisors. Gu YC in 2011 established three types of radicular grooves depending on its severity. According to this classification, type III presents a greater diagnostic and therapeutic complexity. The prevalence of palatogingival grooves in maxillary lateral incisors ranges from 1.9 to 14%. This case report provides valuable information about the diagnosis and treatment plan of palatogingival grooves with Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) scan. Case re…

Distinct pattern of Connexin gene expression during skeletal muscle regeneration in the adult rat.

2008

Aim: The aim of present work was to test the hypothesis that Cx37, Cx39, Cx40, Cx43 and Cx45 expression could be regulated in adult regenerating skeletal muscle in response to injury promoting activation of satellite cells involved in myofibers repair and regeneration. Methods: Using in situ hybridization and immunohistochemistry procedures we examined the spatial and temporal expression pattern of above listed connexins in the regenerating gastrocnemious muscle following a mechanical injury. Results: Cx43 and Cx45 mRNA were up-regulated very early, by 3 hour following muscle injury, and were localised in satellite cells, M-cadherin positive cells, distributed around the area of lesion. One House for €1: Case Studies on the Governance of Abandoned Properties in Small Villages

2021

Abstract This proposal aims at analyzing the Italian initiative “Case a 1 €” launched in 2009 for the preservation of abandoned goods, in Gangi, a small village near Palermo. The Municipality has put for sale the ruined houses for the symbolic prize of 1 €. As this initiative has been imitated by other municipalities in Italy and thus become a model, my intention is to explore how it works based on two different levels of investigation, in terms of: 1) contractual schemes (parties and respective rights and obligations) and 2) policy choices, comparing proposed and achieved goals by the administrations and the parties. Some relevant issues arise after 12 years: is the initiative an appropria…

Creative Cities in Italy: new scenarios and projects

2012

Reflections on and experimentation with urban creativity as a competitive factor put together in recent years, starting with the works of Florida and Landry, gave rise to further theoretical/operative reflections aimed at providing a greater territorial dimension to the creative city, lessening the rhetorical character and increasing that of the concrete effects on the quality of life. In 2007 my book “Creative City: Dynamics, Innovations, Actions” identified the need for concrete evolution and pointed out the factors that make it possible for urban creativity to become a launch pad for new economies and a creative force for new cities and not simply an attractive force for intellectual res…

Creative City 3.0: smart cities for the urban age

2012

In current financial, economical and political crisis, with the progressive downgrading of the States and the world’s GDPs dropping, the strong flows of financial, social and relational capital that powered urban regeneration over the last fifteen years are no longer available to be tapped in on in an indiscriminate manner as it seems was the case until just a few years ago. The most dynamic cities in the near future will no longer be those that are able to attract urban projects driven by the real estate market, or hedge funds, but the cities that have extensive cultural and identifying resources and that are able to use them as the basis for creating new culture and new urban value. Today…

Renovatio urbis versus creatività urbana / Renovatio urbis versus urban creativity

2016

Gametic embryogenesis and haploid technology as valuable support to plant breeding

2011

Plant breeding is focused on continuously increasing crop production to meet the needs of an ever-growing world population, improving food quality to ensure a long and healthy life and address the problems of global warming and environment pollution, together with the challenges of developing novel sources of biofuels. The breeders' search for novel genetic combinations, with which to select plants with improved traits to satisfy both farmers and consumers, is endless. About half of the dramatic increase in crop yield obtained in the second half of the last century has been achieved thanks to the results of genetic improvement, while the residual advance has been due to the enhanced managem…
