Yritysten konkurssitodennäköisyyden ennustaminen logistisella regressiomallilla
2018
Luotettavan ennustemallin rakentaminen on yksi konkurssitutkimuksen keskeisin tavoite.
Neuroaesthetic exploration on the cognitive processing behind repeating graphics
2022
Repeating graphics are common research objects in modern design education. However, we do not exactly know the attentional processes underlying graphic artifacts consisting of repeating rhythms. In this experiment, the event-related potential, a neuroscientific measure, was used to study the neural correlates of repeating graphics within graded orderliness. We simulated the competitive identification process of people recognizing artifacts with graded repeating rhythms from a scattered natural environment with the oddball paradigm. In the earlier attentional processing related to the P2 component around the Fz electrode within the 150−250 ms range, a middle-grade repeating rhythm (Target 1)…

Cautionary note on the two-step transformation to normality
2020
Templeton and Burney (2017) proposed a two-step normality transformation as a remedy for non-normally distributed data, which are commonly found in AIS research. We argue that, rather than transforming the data toward normality, researchers should first seek to analyze and understand the sources of non-normality. Using simulated datasets, we demonstrate three sources of non-normality and their consequences for regression estimation. We then demonstrate that the two-step transformation cannot solve any of these problems and that each source of non-normality can be handled with alternative, existing techniques. We further present two empirical examples to demonstrate these issues with real da…
Interlinkages between operational conditions and direct and indirect greenhouse gas emissions in a moving bed membrane biofilm reactor
2016
Nitrous oxide (N2O) can be emitted during wastewater treatment contributing to the global warming due to its high global warming potential,. During the last ten years, several efforts have been provided to improve knowledge on: key mechanisms, operating factors and influent features affecting the N2O production/emission. However, the knowledge on the investigated issues is not completely mature. Indeed, in terms of mathematical modelling, literature shows that a reliable model has not yet been established due to the huge data set required and the complexity of the mechanistic models indicated as the most accurate. In this work, the first attempt to perform a multiregression analysis is pres…
Adaptive smoothing spline using non-convex penalties
2022
We propose a new adaptive penalty for smoothing via penalized splines. The new form of adaptive penalization is based on penalizing the differences of the coefficients of adjacent bases, using non-convex penalties. This makes possible to estimate curves with varying amounts of smoothness. Comparisons with respect to some competitors are presented.

Land-use changes in an agro-pastoral area (Djougou, Benin) from Landsat archive images (1984 and 2012): a regressive approach combining remote sensin…
2018
Extended abstract:The vegetation of the district of Djougou is affected by large changes due to tree logging, crop field clearing and grazing by increasing numbers of livestock. The dynamics of the landscape is analyzed with a time series of Landsat satellite images (1984-2012). A regressive approach, exploiting the field observations and semi-structured interviews conducted in 2012-2013 in the Bakou-Wewe territory, documents the evolution of land use and facilitates the analysis of Landsat images. An original procedure targets the building of Region of interest (ROIs) for the historic images for which no available field observations exists. The study area is located in central Benin (Plate…
Accelerometer-based physical activity in need satisfaction profiles of schoolchildren: A 3-year follow-up
2023
This study examined moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) trends in physical education (PE) classes and beyond school hours in children's need satisfaction profiles over 3 years. Participants were 445 (girls 256, boys 189) Finnish schoolchildren ( Mage = 11.26 ± 0.32 years). Need satisfaction self-reports and accelerometer-based MVPA data were collected in 17 comprehensive schools over four assessment phases. Four latent profiles based on the need satisfaction trends over time were found: Profiles with Large Decrease, Small Decrease, Small Increase, and Large Increase. The children with the most prominent need satisfaction decreases showed a significant decline in out-of-school MVP…
