TOPS-MODE approach for the prediction of blood-brain barrier permeation.

The blood-brain barrier permeation has been investigated by using a topological substructural molecular design approach (TOPS-MODE). A linear regression model was developed to predict the in vivo blood-brain partitioning coefficient on a data set of 119 compounds, treated as the logarithm of the blood-brain concentration ratio. The final model explained the 70% of the variance and it was validated through the use of an external validation set (33 compounds of the 119, MAE = 0.33), a leave-one-out crossvalidation (q(2) = 0.65, S(press) = 0.43), fivefold full crossvalidation (removing 28 compounds in each cycle, MAE = 33, RMSE = 0.43) and the prediction of +/- values for an external test set …

Abstract Total polar materials (TPM) are used as an indicator of the quality in the frying oil because of high values may be harmful for human health. Spanish legislation establishes the maximum level of total polar materials for frying fats and oils for human consumption around 25% (w/w). Detailed parametric analysis and measurements are required to reduce building energy usage while maintaining acceptable thermal conditions. This research suggested a system that combines Building Information Modeling (BIM), machine learning, and the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm-II (NSGA II) to investigate the impact of building factors on energy usage and find the optimal design. A plugin is developed to receive sensor data and export all necessary information from BIM to MSSQL and Excel. We consider identification of a certain class of discrete-time nonlinear systems known as linear parameter varying system. We assume that inputs, outputs and the scheduling parameters are directly measured, and a form of the functional dependence of the system coefficients on the parameters is known. We show how this identification problem can be reduced to a linear regression, and provide compact formulae for the corresponding least mean square and recursive least-squares algorithms. Physical exercise adherence in Finnish children using a music mat: a pilot study

A growing number of studies has shown that informal musical activities, such as singing, playing an instrument, and musical play at home, are positively associated with children’s health. This paper examines the associations between fourteen 4–6-year-old children’s and their parents’ exercise activity, children’s musical and their exercise adherence when using a music mat over an eight-week period in the home environment. Our results show that most of the children moved on the mat breezily and briskly. The parents assessed that exercises required balance and movement control more than endurance or strength. AbstractThe Bruniaceae are a South African plant family endemic to the Cape Floristic Region with one geographic outlier (Raspalia trigyna) in the Natal Province. Recent molecular phylogenetic analyses have cast new light upon inter- and intra-generic relationships within the family. The present work uses those data to gain insights into the temporal evolution of Bruniaceae by inferring a molecular clock.
