The effects of benzyladenine and meta-Topolin on in vitro sprouting and regrowth after encapsulation of C35 citrange [Citrus sinensis (L.) Osb. × Pon…
2016
C35, a hybrid of ‘Ruby Blood’ sweet orange and trifoliate orange, is a promising Citrus rootstock, mainly due to its resistance to Citrus Tristeza Virus (CTV), one of the most serious pathology affecting citriculture. The use of resistant rootstocks, such as citranges, is an efficient tool to fight this plant disease. This implies a continuous increasing demand of resistant rootstocks, in order to carry out the turnover of sour orange, still the most used Citrus rootstock in Italy. Micropropagation, can provide innovative solutions to obtain, in a short time and in a small space, a number of plants higher than traditional propagation. Micropropagation efficiency is also affected by the cult…
In vitro propagation of Lithodora rosmarinifolia (Ten.) Johnst., a rare endemic Sicilian shrub with potential as ornamental plant.
2007
Lithodora rosmarinifolia is a rare shrub endemic to the Mediterranean island of Sicily and its minor islands. Propagation of Lithodora rosmarinifolia by standard methods is difficult due to erratic seed production and low percentage of rooted cuttings. As the plant is suited for domestication, the possibility of establishing an efficient in vitro technique for propagation and conservation of this threatened species was investigated. Nodal segments from shoot tips were used as primary explants to establish in vitro culture. A 2 X 5 factorial experiment with five concentrations (0 to 17.74 mM) of N6-benzyladenine (BA) and two concentrations (0 and 2.46 mM) of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) was u…
Is ABA involved in tolerance responses to salinity by affecting cytoplasm ion homeostasis in rice cell lines?
2012
Abstract The ability of plant cells to maintain cytoplasm ion homeostasis under saline stress is among the main mechanisms involved in salt tolerance. To cope with excess Na + , cells extrude it from the cytoplasm, which requires expenditure of metabolic energy, provided by H + gradients generated by membrane-bound H + -pumps. ABA is well-known to be involved in physiological processes elicited or enhanced by stresses causing cell dehydration. In this work we studied the possible implication of this plant hormone in the control of salt-induced cellular mechanisms conducting to Na + extrusion from the cytoplasm. We used rice ( Oryza sativa L.) cell lines selected for their different toleranc…
Ras, Rap, and Rac Small GTP-binding Proteins Are Targets for Clostridium sordellii Lethal Toxin Glucosylation
1996
Lethal toxin (LT) from Clostridium sordellii is one of the high molecular mass clostridial cytotoxins. On cultured cells, it causes a rounding of cell bodies and a disruption of actin stress fibers. We demonstrate that LT is a glucosyltransferase that uses UDP-Glc as a cofactor to covalently modify 21-kDa proteins both in vitro and in vivo. LT glucosylates Ras, Rap, and Rac. In Ras, threonine at position 35 was identified as the target amino acid glucosylated by LT. Other related members of the Ras GTPase superfamily, including RhoA, Cdc42, and Rab6, were not modified by LT. Incubation of serum-starved Swiss 3T3 cells with LT prevents the epidermal growth factor-induced phosphorylation of m…
Effect of a novel chemical mixture on senescence processes and plant--fungus interaction in Solanaceae plants.
2001
The effects of exogenous application of a chemical mixture consisting of adipic acid monoethyl ester, furfurylamine, and 1,2,3,4-tetra-O-acetyl-beta-D-glucopyranose (FGA) on various metabolic pathways and the plant-fungus interaction have been studied in Solanaceae plants. Tomato and pepper plants were sprayed with the FGA mixture, and different biochemical parameters such as gas exchange, chlorophyll concentration, protein, cell wall sugar and phenolics contents, and peroxidase and phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL) activities were measured. FGA-treated plants showed, in general, an increase in cell wall sugar content and decreases in the chlorophyll degrading rate and the peroxidase activi…

In vitro rescue of zygotic embryos of sour orange, Citrus aurantium L., and their detection based on RFLP analysis
1998
Embryo development in vivo has been studied in four Citrus aurantium L. polyembryonic genotypes. Seeds were collected 65, 85, 105, 125 and 220 days after pollination (DAP). None of the immature seeds harvested 65 and 85 DAP contained visible embryos. A single embryo at a more advanced developmental stage was observed in the central position at the micropylar apex of the embryo sac in about 74% of seeds harvested at 105 DAP, while at 125 and 220 DAP the majority of seeds had two or more embryos at the same developmental stage crowded together. Restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis of low- and high-copy-number nuclear DNA was used to distinguish zygotic from nucellar seedli…

Micropropagation of Genista aetnensis [(Raf. ex Biv.)DC]
2015
Genista aetnensis [(Raf. ex Biv.)DC] is a large deciduous shrub or small tree native to the Italian islands of Sardinia and Sicily. Being winter hardy and characterized by high plasticity in altitude and ecology, the species is grown in gardens and landscaping, both for flower and for its attractive shape. Genista species are generally propagate by seed or semi hardwood cuttings. In this report an efficient in vitro technique for propagation of G. aetnensis was investigated. Multiple shoots were induced on nodal segments of a mature plant of Genista aetnensis . The Murashige and Skoog medium, augmented with different concentrations of benzyladenine either singly or in combination with indol…
Investigation of the resistance of different varieties of buckwheat to infectious diseases after the pre-sowing treatment of seeds and vegetating pla…
2016
In the work it was investigated the influence of sodium humate, biological products "Vermisol", "Vitasym" and "Bioeco-funge-1" on buckwheat lesion of Botrytis bunch rot, Downy mildew, Ascochyta blight, bacteriosis, burn virus and a complex of diseases after pre-sowing treatment of seeds and vegetating plants of Victoria, Roxolana, Kara-Dag, Rubra, Zelenokvitkova-90,Stepova, Elena, Aelita, Lada and Fagopyrum tataricum Gaertn buckwheat varieties. The prospects of these biological products use under agrocenosis conditions to protect the crops of buckwheat from the complex of diseases were shown. The highest effi- ciency identified for the drug "Bioecofunge-1" which , in addition to protecting …
