There are various ways to construct good processes for soliciting and understanding science. Our critique of advisory models finds that a well-supported chief science advisor (CSA) best ensures the provision of deliberative, informal, and emergency advice to government. Alternatively, bias, increasingly manifest as science-based advocacy, can hinder communication, diminish credibility, and distort scientific evidence.

Within the course of the theory of cultural consumption (CCT), this research aims to enlighten on the relationship between the consumer to hir or her system of consumption. The first part, qualitative, attempts to describe the nature of the relationship between the consumer and his or her system (the wardrobe in our case) through an anthropological study and a semiotic study. Government size, composition, volatility and economic growth

This paper analyses the effects in terms of size and volatility of government revenue and spending on growth in OECD and EU countries. The results of the paper suggest that both variables are detrimental to growth. In particular, looking more closely at the effect of each component of government revenue and spending, the results point out that i) indirect taxes (size and volatility); ii) social contributions (size and volatility); iii) government consumption (size and volatility); iv) subsidies (size); and v) government investment (volatility) have a sizeable, negative and statistically significant effect on growth. info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

This note reproduces an unpublished paper on "Social Values in Economic Consumption" which Knight prepared for the Social Science Research Council (SSRC) Summer Conference, on Nantucket, Massachusetts in June 1931. This paper sheds new light on Knight in two important respects. First, it presents, in a more systematic fashion, Knight’s criticism of what he perceived to be the then standard theory of consumption. Specifically, Knight argued that an individual's consumption is dictated more by his income in relation to others than by mere utility maximization — a notion now commonly known as relative income hypothesis. The Stabilizing Role of Government Size

2007

This paper presents an analysis of how alternative models of the business cycle can replicate the stylized fact that large governments are associated with less volatile economies. Our analysis shows that adding nominal rigidities and costs of capital adjustment to an otherwise standard RBC model can generate a negative correlation between government size and the volatility of output. However, in the model, we find that the stabilizing effect is only due to a composition effect and it is not present when we look at the volatility of private output. Este artículo se basa en la idea de cómo la comunicación musical activa no solo elementos musicales sino culturales y sociales. Como práctica social, la música muestra tanto su poder comunicativo como los límites de la comunicación (entendida como un intercambio de mensajes y significados). En este sentido, el ruido se presenta como un factor de disrupción en el circuito semiótico y en las relaciones sociales. La cuestión del ruido se trata como un aspecto liminar del sonido y la música, como puede observarse en diversos ejemplos tomados de la vanguardia (ruidismo) hasta la música popular contemporánea (noise), pasando por géneros musicales particulares como el punk-rock o la música tecno.
