The Digitalisation of Political Parties in Comparative Perspective

This chapter outlines the main findings of the edited book. Through the study of a wide range of political parties from Europe and beyond, this book has explored the different degrees of digitalisation that political parties present, and, at the same time, discussed the main technological, democratic issues and trade-offs that political parties have faced in their digital transition. The most relevant finding is that all political parties operating in the democracies analysed have digitalised their organisations to some extent. TBBPA causes neurotoxic and the apoptotic responses in cultured mouse hippocampal neurons in vitro

Abstract Background Tetrabromobisphenol A (TBBPA) is a brominated flame retardant widely used in a variety of commercial and household products. TBBPA can become bioaccumulated in human body fluids, and also in different brain regions. The aim of the present study was to determine the viability and apoptosis of cultured mouse hippocampal neurons in vitro after exposure to TBBPA. We report the synthesis of polysarcosine-block-polyglutamic acid benzylester (PSar-block-PGlu(OBn)) and polysarcosine-block-polylysine-ε-N-benzyloxycarbonyl (PSar-block-PLys(Z)) copolymers. The novel polypeptoid-block-polypeptide copolymers (Copolypept(o)ides) have been synthesized by ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of N-carboxyanhydrides (NCAs). Polymerization conditions were optimized regarding protecting groups, block sequence and length. While the degree of polymerization of the PSar block length was set to be around 200 or 400, PGlu(OBn) and PLys(Z) block lengths were varied between 20 to 75. Amphiphilic cyclodextrin (ACyD) provides water-soluble and adaptable nanovectors by modulating the balance between the hydrophobic and hydrophilic chains at both CyD sides. This work aimed to design nanoassemblies based on nonionic and hydrophilic ACyD (SC6OH) for the delivery of a poor-water-soluble organotin(IV)-porphyrin derivative [(Bu3Sn)4TPPS] to melanoma cancer cells. Missing the rarest: is the positive interspecific abundance–distribution relationship a truly general macroecological pattern?

Lepidopterists have long acknowledged that many uncommon butterfly species can be extremely abundant in suitable locations. If this is generally true, it contradicts the general macroecological pattern of the positive interspecific relationship between abundance and distribution, i.e. locally abundant species are often geographically more widespread than locally rare species. l-Glutamate receptor binding in bovine retina

Using a centrifugation technique saturable specific [ 3 H]glutamate binding in bovine retina could be demonstrated. Scatchard analysis revealed only one population of binding sites with a dissociation constant of about 3 μ m and a maximal number of binding sites of about 0·2 pmol/mg retinal protein. Several glutamic acid analogues inhibit specific [ 3 H]glutamate binding in bovine retina with half-maximal inhibitory concentrations similar to those reported in other areas of the CNS. Quasi-brittle porous material: Simulated effect of stochastic air void structure on compressive strength

Abstract The effect of porosity comprised of spherical air voids on the compressive strength of quasi-brittle material was studied via simulations. The simulated porous structures were based on pore size distributions of two mortar samples measured by X-ray microtomography. While the simulation method set practical limits on the size of sample, the base of the statistics was established by simulating 128 small structures generated by sampling from pore structures of two mortars. Sports participation and cultural trends. Running as a reflection of individualisation and post-materialism processes in Spanish society

AbstractThis article examines the relationship between cultural change processes and the practice of running. The empirical basis is the national survey on Spanish sport habits carried out in 2005. Specifically, the subsamples of runners (n = 343) and other sport modalities (n = 2,687) were used. The study reveals that runners are characterised by more post-materialist and individualist tendencies than the rest of the participants. The results suggest the existence of a close relationship between the predominant cultural orientations and certain types of sport activity.
