Medical Discourse and Academic Genres

This article is designed to give a detailed description of medical English from a genre analysis perspective. First, the relevance of medical communication and the significance of genre to account for communicative events in this discipline are presented. Different medical genres are then described in detail in terms of their language use and macrostructural patterns. The rhetorical structure of review articles, research articles, and case reports, among the written medical genres, is analyzed.
Semi-supervised Hyperspectral Image Classification with Graphs

This paper presents a semi-supervised graph-based method for the classification of hyperspectral images. The method is designed to exploit the spatial/contextual information in the im- ages through composite kernels. The proposed method produces smoother classifications with respect to the intrinsic structure collectively revealed by known labeled and unlabeled points. Good accuracy in high dimensional spaces and low number of labeled samples (ill-posed situations) are produced as compared to standard inductive support vector machines.
Retrieval of oceanic chlorophyll concentration with relevance vector machines

Abstract In this communication, we evaluate the performance of the relevance vector machine (RVM) for the estimation of biophysical parameters from remote sensing data. For illustration purposes, we focus on the estimation of chlorophyll-a concentrations from remote sensing reflectance just above the ocean surface. A variety of bio-optical algorithms have been developed to relate measurements of ocean radiance to in situ concentrations of phytoplankton pigments, and ultimately most of these algorithms demonstrate the potential of quantifying chlorophyll-a concentrations accurately from multispectral satellite ocean color data. This article try to deal with the complex influence of television viewing in the process of socialization of children and adolescents, focusing our attention on the importance of the family as the mediator-educator agency of particular relevance. Once analyzed the basic theoretical assumptions, we deepened in reality under study by providing data about how the studied population lives television and what extent parental mediation influences and affects the process. Ha previsto la possibilità di impugnare una sentenza definitiva di assoluzione per omicidio o crimini internazionali, qualora – in base a nuovi fatti o mezzi di prova – emergano “ragioni stringenti” per una condanna. La riforma ha già sollecitato dubbi di legittimità costituzionale e, per la sua rilevanza, suscita varie riflessioni.
