Instrumento para Evaluar la Cohesión Social en Universidades Mexicanas: Resultados de la Validación Cultural UNIVECS-MX

2021

DEBATE: Do interventions based on behavioral theory work in the real world?

2019

Abstract Background Behavioral scientists suggest that for behavior change interventions to work effectively, and deliver population-level health outcomes, they must be underpinned by behavioral theory. However, despite implementation of such interventions, population levels of both health outcomes and linked behaviors have remained relatively static. We debate the extent to which interventions based on behavioral theory work in the real world to address population health outcomes. Discussion Hagger argues there is substantive evidence supporting the efficacy and effectiveness of interventions based on behavioral theory in promoting population-level health behavior change in the ‘real world…

Theory-based digital intervention to promote weight loss and weight loss maintenance (Choosing Health)

2020

IntroductionDigital behavioural weight loss interventions have the potential to improve public health; however, these interventions are often not adequately tailored to the needs of the participants. This is the protocol for a trial that aims to determine the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of the Choosing Health programme as a means to promote weight loss and weight loss maintenance among overweight/obese adults. Methods and analysisThe proposed study is a two-group randomised controlled trial with a nested interrupted time series (ITS) within-person design. Participants (n=285) will be randomly assigned to either the Choosing Health digital intervention or a control group. For interve…

Clients’ Experiences With Internet-Based Psychological Treatments for Mental Disorders: Protocol for a Metasynthesis of Qualitative Studies

2018

Background: Given the rise of internet-based treatments as an effective therapeutic tool for psychological disorders, it is necessary to carry out research that examines clients’ experiences with this type of intervention. The qualitative methodology has been found to be useful for analyzing clients’ perceptions in terms of facilitators and barriers, acceptability, and negative effects of internet-based treatments. However, a lack of integration of these primary studies has prevented their findings from being applied to new research and in clinical practice. Objective: The objective of this paper is to describe the protocol for a metasynthesis of qualitative studies exploring the experience…

Music in the moment? Revisiting the effect of large scale structures.

2007

The psychological relevance of large-scale musical structures has been a matter of debate in the music community. This issue was investigated with a method that allows assessing listeners' detection of musical incoherencies in normal and scrambled versions of popular and contemporary music pieces. Musical excerpts were segmented into 28 or 29 chunks. In the scrambled version, the temporal order of these chunks was altered with the constraint that the transitions between two chunks never created local acoustical and musical disruptions. Participants were required (1) to detect on-line incoherent linking of chunks, (2) to rate aesthetic quality of pieces, and (3) to evaluate their overall co…

The value relevance of losses revisited: the importance of earnings aggregation

2011

Accepted version of an article published in the journal: Global Business and Economics Review. Also available from the publisher at: http://dx.doi.org/10.1504/GBER.2011.040728 Prior research has suggested that earnings explain a larger portion of the variation in stock returns when disaggregated into components. This study shows that the increase in explanatory power stems primarily from disaggregation of negative earnings. When accounting earnings are sufficiently disaggregated into items, there is no longer a statistical difference in the value relevance of positive and negative earnings. Thus, negative earnings are also useful to stock investors. The findings are attributed to earnings p…

The Screen Is Yours—Comparing Handheld Pairing Techniques for Public Displays

2013

Whereas mobile devices have been heavily investigated as remote controls for distant displays, research on the fundamental first step, the pairing with the display, is scarce. In a comparative user study with 31 participants we evaluated five potential pairing techniques concerning their performance and acceptance for connecting to a public display and gained insights into the general requirements for pairing techniques in this special usage context. Besides four established mobile interaction techniques (touching an NFC tag, capturing a QR code, scanning, and manual input), our study considered a recent appropriate pairing technique called display pointing, which allows passers-by to conne…

Studying the feasibility of a recommender in a citizen web portal based on user modeling and clustering algorithms

2006

This paper presents a methodology to estimate the future success of a collaborative recommender in a citizen web portal. This methodology consists of four stages, three of them are developed in this study. First of all, a user model, which takes into account some usual characteristics of web data, is developed to produce artificial data sets. These data sets are used to carry out a clustering algorithm comparison in the second stage of our approach. This comparison provides information about the suitability of each algorithm in different scenarios. The benchmarked clustering algorithms are the ones that are most commonly used in the literature: c-Means, Fuzzy c-Means, a set of hierarchical …

A NSGA Based Approach for Content Based Image Retrieval

2013

The purpose of CBIR Content Based Image Retrieval systems is to allow users to retrieve pictures related to a semantic concept of their interest, when no other information but the images themselves is available. Commonly, a series of images are presented to the user, who judges on their relevance. Several different models have been proposed to help the construction of interactive systems based on relevance feedback. Some of these models consider that an optimal query point exists, and focus on adapting the similarity measure and moving the query point so that it appears close to the relevant results and far from those which are non-relevant. This implies a strong causality between the low l…
