An important element in the identity constructs of both sides of the border, the Mexican-American War of 1846-1848 is often depicted exclusively through a nationalist perspective, with strong associations of victor and vanquished. This article explores how the Californio community in San Diego was divided during this conflict with active support given to both nations involved. While such a division can be examined and understood in a local context, it poses problems for the national discourses surrounding the acquisition of California by the United States. Researchers in social memory are bound in their work to include the relations occurring between the memory of local communities and the official historical policy of the State. When events retained and exposed in the local memory are persistently passed over in silence, distorted, falsified or removed from the public sphere by means of decisions taken by the censorship, the remembrance of these events takes on the character of concealed memory, which integrates the given social group tightly (e.g., the Siberians, the Silesians). The selection of books about war for young readers is impressive thanks to the joint effort of writers and publishers (e.g. Wydawnictwo Muchomor, Stentor, Literatura, The State Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum, The Warsaw Rising Museum). Most works are prose: diaries, journals, memoirs; stylized texts (fictional diaries, memoirs, stories, chronicles), and autobiographical works. What they have in common is the figurę of the narrator: a child, teenager or adult, who gives an account of events either from the perspective of "here and now” or "then and today". In memoriam: Aina Blinkena (5.09.1929 – 22.11.2017) Professor Aina Blinkena passed away on 22 November 2017. Upon her graduation from the Latvian State University in 1953, she began working for the Institute of Language and Literature of the Latvian SSR Academy of Sciences (today: the Institute of the Latvian Language of the University of Latvia), which became her only permanent workplace. Starting her work as a junior research associate and later – a deputy director and a full member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences, Aina Blinkena shaped the linguistic thought in Latvia for almost fifty years. Proces wrastania autochtonów i przesiedleńców w nową przestrzeń kulturową na Śląsku po II wojnie światowej

Decyzją konferencji jałtańskiej w 1945 r. wytyczono nowe granice państwa polskiego po II wojnie światowej oraz ustalono konieczność wysiedlenia Niemców z ziem przekazanych Polsce. Doprowadziło to do masowych przesiedleń ludności z dawnych terenów wschodnich II Rzeczypospolitej na tzw. odzyskane ziemie zachodnie, dla której proces „wrastania” w nową przestrzeń był wyjątkowo traumatyczny. Autorka śledzi ten skomplikowany i długotrwały proces na przykładzie Opolszczyzny, gdzie funkcjonowały obok siebie dwie wspólnoty: przesiedleńców i autochtonów, w równym stopniu przeżywające szok związany z niełatwą adaptacją do nowej rzeczywistości politycznej.
