Epimutation at human chromosome 14q32.2 in a boy with a upd(14)mat-like clinical phenotype.

2009

Recently, three reports described deletions and epimutations affecting the imprinted region at chromosome 14q32.2 in individuals with a phenotype typical for maternal uniparental disomy of chromosome 14 [upd(14)mat]. In this study, we describe another patient with upd(14)mat-like phenotype including low birth weight, neonatal feeding problems, muscular hypotonia, motor and developmental delay, small hands and feet, and truncal obesity. Conventional cytogenetic analyses, fluorescence in situ hybridization subtelomere screening, multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification analysis of common microdeletion and microduplication syndromes, and methylation analysis of SNRPN all gave normal re…

Testicular sperm from patients with obstructive and nonobstructive azoospermia: aneuploidy risk and reproductive prognosis using testicular sperm fro…

2010

Objective To establish a baseline incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in testicular sperm of fertile men and to determine the best control sample for comparisons with azoospermic males to estimate their reproductive prognosis. Design Prospective study. Setting Infertility clinic. Patient(s) Sixteen obstructive azoospermic (OA) and 19 nonobstructive azoospermic patients (NOA). Control samples were ejaculated sperm from ten fertile donors and testicular sperm from ten other fertile donors. Intervention(s) Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) in sperm. Main Outcome Measure(s) Sperm numerical abnormalities for chromosomes 13, 18, 21, X, and Y; ongoing implantation and pregnancy rates in…

Childhood neglect and parental care perception in cocaine addicts: Relation with psychiatric symptoms and biological correlates

2009

Childhood neglect and poor child–parent relationships have been reported to increase substance use disorders susceptibility. Stressful environmental factors, including emotional neglect, could affect individual personality traits and mental health, possibly inducing stable changes in hypothalamic–pituitary–adrenal (HPA) axis and brain mono-amine function, in turn involved in addictive behavior vulnerability. Therefore, we decided to investigate homovanillic (HVA) and prolactin (PRL) plasma levels, as expression of possible changes in dopamine function, ACTH and cortisol plasma levels, as measures of HPA axis function, and concomitant psychiatric symptoms profile in abstinent cocaine a…

Links between maternal feeding practices and children's eating difficulties. Validation of French tools

2012

Abstract: The main objectives of the study were to validate a measure of young children's eating difficulties and maternal feeding practices in a French sample, and to assess the links between these practices and children's eating difficulties. Mothers of French children aged 20-36 months completed 4 questionnaires that were validated using a Structural Equation Modelling approach. Links between children and maternal components were investigated using a PLS regression. The Children's Eating Difficulties Questionnaire yielded a 4-dimension solution: Neophobia, Pickiness, Low Appetite and Low Enjoyment in food. The Feeding Style Questionnaire assessed 3 dimensions: Authoritarian, Authoritativ…

Validation of the Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire with parents of 10-to-12-year-olds

2011

Abstract Background There is a lack of validated instruments for quantifying feeding behavior among parents of older children and adolescents. The Comprehensive Feeding Practices Questionnaire (CFPQ) is a self-report measure to assess multiple parental feeding practices. The CFPQ is originally designed for use with parents of children ranging in age from about 2 to 8 years. It is previously validated with American and French parents of children within this age range. The aim of the present study was to adapt and test the validity of this measure with parents of older children (10-to-12-year-olds) in a Norwegian setting. Methods A sample of 963 parents of 10-to-12-year-olds completed a Norwe…

Prevalence of Parental Alcohol Problems among a General Population Sample of 28,047 Norwegian Adults: Evidence for a Socioeconomic Gradient

2021

The aim of the study presented here was to estimate the prevalence of parental alcohol problems during childhood in a general population of Norwegian adults, and to investigate associations between parental alcohol problems during childhood and lower socioeconomic status in adulthood. This cross-sectional study recruited 28,047 adults (≥18 years) to an online health survey (Norwegian Counties Public Health Surveys). We evaluated demographic and socioeconomic measures and responses to a shortened version of the Children of Alcoholics Screening Test (CAST-6) scale to assess whether respondents perceived parental alcohol consumption during childhood as problematic. Respondents reported parenta…

Genome-wide association studies identify 137 loci for DNA methylation biomarkers of ageing

2020

AbstractBiological ageing estimators derived from DNA methylation (DNAm) data are heritable and correlate with morbidity and mortality. Leveraging DNAm and SNP data from >41,000 individuals, we identify 137 genome-wide significant loci (113 novel) from meta-analyses of four epigenetic clocks and epigenetic surrogate markers for granulocyte proportions and plasminogen activator inhibitor 1 levels, respectively. We report strong genetic correlations with longevity and lifestyle factors such as smoking, education, and obesity. Significant associations are observed in polygenic risk score analysis and to a lesser extent in Mendelian randomization analyses. This study illuminates the genetic …

La cuestión religiosa: 1899-1902. Los católicos valencianos y su respuesta política

1997
