Four color-measuring devices compared with a spectrophotometric reference system

2009

Abstract Objectives The objective of this study was to compare the L*C*h° color coordinates of dental color-measuring devices with those of a spectrophotometric reference system. Methods The International Commission on Illumination (CIE) L*C*h° color coordinates of ceramic samples, matching the colors of the VITA Linearguide, were recorded using four color-measuring devices (VITA Easyshade (A), VITA Easyshade compact (B), Degudent Shadepilot (C), X-Rite Shadevision (D)) and a spectrophotometric reference system under standardized test conditions. The intraclass correlation coefficients, regression lines with coefficients of determination, and mean deviations of the dental color-measuring de…

Preparation and characterization of hexyl methacrylate monolithic columns for CEC

2008

The preparation of hexyl methacrylate (HMA) monolithic columns for CEC separations has been investigated with two initiation systems: (i) ammonium peroxodisulphate and TEMED to activate the polymerization reaction, and (ii) by thermal initiation with AIBN. For both initiators, the influence of composition of porogenic solvent on morphological and chromatographic properties of monoliths was investigated. Two porogenic solvent systems, aqueous and non-aqueous media, were also studied for monolithic beds polymerized with AIBN. Under optimal conditions, low minimum plate heights (9.6 mum for peroxodisulphate, 8.4 and 10.0 mum for AIBN in aqueous and non-aqueous porogenic solvents, respectively)…

Analysis of perfluorinated compounds in sewage sludge by pressurized solvent extraction followed by liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry

2011

Perfluorinated compounds (PFCs) are widely used in everyday life and one of the main recipients of these compounds is waste water treatment plants (WWTPs). Due to the structure and physicochemical properties of PFCs, these compounds could be redistributed from influent water to sludge. This work reports a new validated protocol for the analysis of 13 perfluorinated acids, 4 perfluorosulfonates and the perfluorooctanesulfonamide. The present work has been focused to develop a sensitive and robust method for the analysis of 18 PFCs in sewage sludge, based on pressurized solvent extraction (PSE) followed by solid phase extraction (SPE) clean-up, analytes separation by liquid chromatography and…

Multiple reaction monitoring for identification and quantification of oligosaccharides in legumes using a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer.

2022

Raffinose family oligosaccharides are non-digestible compounds considered as dietary prebiotics with health-related properties. Hence, it is important to develop highly specific methods for their determination. An analytical method is developed in this study for oligosaccharide identification and quantification using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry equipped with a triple quadrupole analyser operating in Multiple Reaction Monitoring mode. Raffinose, stachyose and verbascose are separated in a 10-minute run and the method is validated over a broad concentration range, showing good linearity, accuracy, precision and high sensitivity. A low-cost, short eco-friendly procedure for …

Determination of n-alkanes, PAHs and hopanes in atmospheric aerosol: evaluation and comparison of thermal desorption GC-MS and solvent extraction GC-…

2019

Organic aerosol (OA) constitutes a large fraction of fine particulate matter (PM) in the urban air. However, the chemical nature and sources of OA are not well constrained. Quantitative analysis of OA is essential for understanding the sources and atmospheric evolution of fine PM, which requires accurate quantification of some organic compounds (e.g., markers). In this study, two analytical approaches, i.e., thermal desorption (TD) gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and solvent extract (SE) GC-MS were evaluated for the determination of n-alkanes, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and hopanes in ambient aerosol. For the SE approach, the recovery obtained is 89.3–101.5&…

Automated Fourier Transform near Infrared Determination of Buprofezin in Pesticide Formulations

2005

An automated procedure has been developed for Fourier transform near infrared (FT-NIR) determination of buprofezin in pesticide formulations. This methodology is based on on-line pesticide extraction with acetonitrile from solid samples and its determination by using peak area absorbance measurements between 2147 and 2132 nm, corrected with a horizontal baseline established at 2091 nm. The repeatability, as a relative standard deviation of five independent analyses of 18.9 mg g−1 of buprofezin, was 0.06% and the limit of detection 5 mg L−1. The reagent consumption was clearly reduced compared with a chromatographic reference procedure from 40.4 mL acetonitrile per sample, required by high …

Method for Reproducible Shipboard Segmented Flow Analysis Ammonium Measurement Using an In-House Reference Material for Quality Control

2021

Ammonium is a fundamental nutrient for phytoplankton growth in seawater and is a key component of the microbial loop. Ammonium measured in parallel with other nutrients is crucial in understanding the small temporal scale changes in oceanographic ecology. Despite the importance of measuring ammonium at sea, owing to its lability, there is no consensus on the best method. The lack of availability of certified reference materials for ammonium in seawater also makes it difficult to assess the accuracy and reproducibility of ammonium measurements. In this study we present a modified segmented flow analysis method using ortho-phthaldialdehyde (OPA) with fluorescence detection to measure ammonium…

Mid- and near-infrared determination of metribuzin in agrochemicals

2008

Abstract Two infrared-based methodologies were developed for metribuzin determination in pesticide formulations after extraction with acetonitrile. Fourier transform mid infrared (MIR) procedure was based on peak area measurements between 1692 and 1670 cm −1 corrected with a baseline fixed at 1877 cm −1 . Fourier transform near infrared (NIR) determination was made by measuring the peak area between 6498 and 6332 cm −1 corrected using a two points baseline defined between 6570 and 6212 cm −1 . Repeatability, as relative standard deviation, of 5 independent measurements at mg g −1 concentration level was 0.3% and 0.03% for MIR and NIR, respectively, and limit of detection values of 9 and 17 …

Repeatability of whole-cornea measurements using an anterior segment imaging device based on OCT and Placido-disk

2017

Current advances in refractive surgery require high accuracy of corneal measurements. We aim to evaluate the repeatability of topographic measurements using an integrated Placido disk - OCT device.Thirty right eyes of thirty healthy and young subjects were included. The topographic parameters of simulated keratometry, asphericity, minimum pachymetry, white-to-white distance, spherical aberration and corneal elevation were studied. Three measurements were taken by the same observer using the Visante omni device. The coefficient of repeatability (CoR), coefficient of variation (CoV) and intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) were calculated to assess the repeatability. The Bland-Altman grap…

Daily changes of individual gait patterns identified by means of support vector machines.

2016

Despite the common knowledge about the individual character of human gait patterns and about their non-repeatability, little is known about their stability, their interactions and their changes over time. Variations of gait patterns are typically described as random deviations around a stable mean curve derived from groups, which appear due to noise or experimental insufficiencies. The purpose of this study is to examine the nature of intrinsic inter-session variability in more detail by proving separable characteristics of gait patterns between individuals as well as within individuals in repeated measurement sessions. Eight healthy subjects performed 15 gait trials at a self-selected spee…
