ViR: a tool to account for intrasample variability in the detection of viral integrations

2020

ABSTRACTLateral gene transfer (LT) from viruses to eukaryotic cells is a well-recognized phenomenon. Somatic integrations of viruses have been linked to persistent viral infection and genotoxic effects, including various types of cancer. As a consequence, several bioinformatic tools have been developed to identify viral sequences integrated into the human genome. Viral sequences that integrate into germline cells can be transmitted vertically, be maintained in host genomes and be co-opted for host functions. Endogenous viral elements (EVEs) have long been known, but the extent of their widespread occurrence has only been recently appreciated. Modern genomic sequencing analyses showed that e…

Effects of energy density on the liking for sweet drinks and on caloric adjustment conditioning after exposure in children

2014

The contribution of energy density from sweet drinks to energy intake in children needs clarification. The objective was to study the influence of energy conditioning on liking and on caloric adjustment after sweet drinks exposure. Children aged 8 to 11 (n=44) were exposed to distinctly flavored sweetened drinks: a high-energy (HE: 150kcal) and a no-energy version (NE: 0kcal). They received either 2 or 7 exposures to each drink during a 4-wk conditioning period; no exposure during a 3-wk stability period; 3 exposures to both drinks, for which the association between the flavor and the energy density was switched, during a 4-wk extinction period. Flavor liking and food intake during the meal…

Détermination et transmission du goût. Importance des expériences précoces

2013

Identification of Type I and IX Collagens in the Ascidian Ciona intestinalis

2001

Immunohistochemical methods showed that a type I collagen is a component of the tunic of Ciona intestinalis, involved in the encapsulation process. Since the fibril-forming collagen types are characterized by triple helical domain with a highly preserved Gly-Xaa-Yaa repeated sequence, a probe coding the fibril-forming type I collagen of the echinoderm Paracentrotus lividus was used to identify ascidian cDNA clones. Northern blot hybridization established that P. lividus probe cross-hybridizes with a 6 Kb C. intestinalis mRNA isolated from the pharynx. Using the echinodermal type I collagen cDNA as a probe several positive clones were identified. Analysis of sequence and the deduced amino ac…

SART and Individual Trial Mistake Thresholds: Predictive Model for Mobility Decline

2021

The Sustained Attention to Response Task (SART) has been used to measure neurocognitive functions in older adults. However, simplified average features of this complex dataset may result in loss of primary information and fail to express associations between test performance and clinically meaningful outcomes. Here, we describe a new method to visualise individual trial (raw) information obtained from the SART test, vis-à-vis age, and groups based on mobility status in a large population-based study of ageing in Ireland. A thresholding method, based on the individual trial number of mistakes, was employed to better visualise poorer SART performances, and was statistically validated with bin…

Large Networks of Dynamic Agents: Consensus under Adversarial Disturbances

2012

This paper studies interactions among homogeneous social groups within the framework of large population games. Each group is represented by a network and the behavior described by a two-player repeated game. The contribution is three-fold. Beyond the idea of providing a novel two-level model with repeated games at a lower level and population games at a higher level, we also establish a mean field equilibrium and study state feedback best-response strategies as well as worst-case adversarial disturbances in that context.
