An ontology-based retrieval system for mammographic reports
2015
In healthcare domain it can be useful to compare unstructured free-text clinical reports in order to enable the search for similar and/or relevant clinical cases. In data mining and text analysis tasks, the cosine similarity is usually used for texts comparison purposes. It is usually performed by computing the standard document vector cosine similarity between the two vectors representing the report pair under analysis. In this paper a novel system based on text pre-processing techniques and a modelled medical knowledge, using an improved radiological ontology, is proposed. Medical terms organized in a hierarchical tree can assess semantic similarity relationships between unstructured repo…
Bayesian Network Based Classification of Mammography Structured Reports
2013
In modern medical domain, documents are created directly in electronic form and stored on huge databases containing documents, text in integral form and images. Retrieving right informations from these servers is challenging and, sometimes, this is very time consuming. Current medical technology do not provide a smart methodology classification of such documents based on their content. In this work the radiological structured reports are analysed classified and assigning an appropriate label. The text classifier is used to label a mammographic structured report. The experimental data are real clinical report coming from a hospital server. Analysing the structured report content, the classif…
Open government in Italy and in the Sicilian Region
2018
This short essay collects contributions and documentation relating to Rapporto sull’Open Government in Sicilia 2015 (the second Report on Open Government in Sicily), presented in March 31th, 2015 in the DEMS department lecture hall at the University of Palermo. Correctness of judicial information and impartiality of the judge: the distortions of the media criminal trial
2022
This analysis, which focuses on the difficult relationship between criminal justice and judicial information, examines only some of the most controversial aspects, starting with an undisputed premise, namely that over time the function of communication in judicial matters has changed, evolving from informative to formative. I will reflect on the hiatus between the real justice as exercised in courtrooms and justice perceived by the public through media narratives, paying particular attention to the distortions of the so-called media trial and the resulting bias in the exercise of judicial power. Finally, we will consider possible solutions, which, in a perspective of striking a balance betw…
Obsidian from the Neolithic Layers of “Grotta di San Michele Arcangelo di Saracena” (Cosenza), Italy. A Preliminary Report
2021
Abstract The paper presents the results obtained by techno-typological analysis of a lithic assemblage from the Neolithic layers of Grotta San Michele Arcangelo di Saracena (Cosenza) together with the results of micro-wear analysis obtained from a preliminary selection of obsidian artifacts with different provenances distinguished by pXRF analysis. The site provides one of the best preserved Neolithic sequences in the area, from the earliest Impressed Wares (or Impresse Arcaiche) (early sixth millennium BC) to the Spatarella pottery style (end fifth – early fourth millennium BC). Along the Neolithic sequence, it is possible to observe some major changes within lithic resources management. I…

Brain Damage
2020
Brain Damage.
Brain Damage. Psicofotografia come coscienza immaginale
2020
2022
The volume collects and analyzes the collaborations of Manuel Vázquez Montalbán in the magazine Triunfo, from the opinion article, to the report, from the short story to the comic strip, focusing on the use of heteronomous words. Following the path of the genre, the style and the narrative perspectives of the different contributions, the fertile osmosis between literary discourse and journalistic discourse is thus verified. The weekly appeared in 1946 in Valencia, playing a role of theater and film information and criticism. Since its transfer to Madrid in 1948, the magazine expanded its interests, inserting articles on domestic and foreign policy, until, in the 1960s, it became the intelle…
