The characterization of the capability of a balance

A survey is given on important standardized definitions by which the capability of balances may be characterized. Some modifications are proposed with regard to the use of mass sensors for the continuous determination of mass variations. An important supplement is the ‘relative resolution’ introduced by Jenemann. Optimum values are presented.

Tuning the size and shape of nano-boehmites by a free-additive hydrothermal method

A synthetic procedure allowing the control of boehmite micro and nanoparticles is presented. The proposed hydrothermal synthetic procedure is based on the control of three reaction parameters, the pH and temperature of precipitation of xerogels and the water/xerogel ratio for the hydrothermal process, carried out at 200 °C for 48 h. Results obtained by measurements on transmission electron microscopy (TEM) images indicate that at pH 5 micro or nanorods of controlled length between ca. 300 and 50 nm were obtained depending on the temperature of precipitation of the xerogel (25 or 100 °C) and the water/xerogel ratio used (1/1, 6/1, 15/1). The present paper aims to validate the usefulness of the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) obtained by satellite remote sensing for the development of local maps of risk and for prediction of human fasciolosis in the Northern Bolivian Altiplano. The endemic area, which is located at very high altitudes (3800-4100 m) between Lake Titicaca and the valley of the city of La Paz, presents the highest prevalences and intensities of fasciolosis known in humans. High-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and analysis of the ν3 fundamental band of P4

Abstract We present the first high-resolution infrared absorption study of the ν 3 fundamental of white phosphorus, P 4 . This spectrum has been analyzed using the STDS (Spherical Top Data System) software. The band center lies at 466.286 cm −1 . With the approximation ( Bζ ) 3 =− B 0 /2, we found that the ground-state bond length is r 0 =219.58 pm. This value is consistent with that of ab initio studies reported previously but significantly different from a value obtained from a Raman study.

Theory of singularities has been closely related with the study of oscillatory integrals. More precisely, the study of critical points is closely related to the study of asymptotic of oscillatory integrals. In our work we investigate the fractal properties of a geometrical representation of oscillatory integrals. We are motivated by a geometrical representation of Fresnel integrals by a spiral called the clothoid, and the idea to produce a classification of singularities using fractal dimension. A method to reduce the FP/imm number through CC and MLO views comparison in mammographic images

In this paper we propose a method to reduce the FP/imm number through CC and MLO mammographic views comparison of the same patient. The proposed solution uses the symmetry properties of the breast to compute a geometric transformation that permits to represent the two images in comparable coordinates systems. Through this method, potential pathological ROIs of one of the projections are correlated with the ROIs in the second view. To show the effectiveness of the result we apply the method on a dataset composed of 112 couples of pathological images. Experiments shows that method enables a reduction by up to 700/0 of the FP/imm number detected after the classification step
ARES I: WASP-76 b, A Tale of Two HST Spectra

We analyse the transmission and emission spectra of the ultra-hot Jupiter WASP-76b, observed with the G141 grism of the Hubble Space Telescope's Wide Field Camera 3 (WFC3). We reduce and fit the raw data for each observation using the open-source software Iraclis before performing a fully Bayesian retrieval using the publicly available analysis suite TauRex 3. Previous studies of the WFC3 transmission spectra of WASP-76 b found hints of titanium oxide (TiO) and vanadium oxide (VO) or non-grey clouds. First M87 Event Horizon Telescope Results. IV. Imaging the Central Supermassive Black Hole

We present the first Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) images of M87, using observations from April 2017 at 1.3 mm wavelength. These images show a prominent ring with a diameter of ~40 μas, consistent with the size and shape of the lensed photon orbit encircling the "shadow" of a supermassive black hole. The ring is persistent across four observing nights and shows enhanced brightness in the south. To assess the reliability of these results, we implemented a two-stage imaging procedure. Abstract A method for estimating the difference between the channel emissivities in NOAA-AVHRR Channels 4 and 5 is proposed and applied to a data set from the HAPEX-MOBILHY experiment. The method is based on the separation between the atmospheric and emissivity effects in the brightness temperature difference measured with AVHRR Channels 4 and 5. Atmospheric profiles coincident to the satellite overpass and a radiative transfer model are required to estimate the atmospheric correction for brightness temperatures.
