Turning the tide: Registered nurses' job withdrawal intentions in a Finnish university hospital

2012

Orientation: Given the global shortage of registered nurses, it is important to investigate the intentions for job withdrawal of nurses, and resolve these, in order to retain nurses in the field. Research purpose: The objective was to examine the intentions for job withdrawal of ageing and younger nurses, and the antecedents of these intentions, with special reference to job control and perceived development opportunities. The age of 45 was adopted as a starting point when referring to ageing employees. Motivation for the study: Different forms of job withdrawal have rarely been studied together and associated. Research design, approach and method: A quantitative study was applied with logi…

Misguided Effort with Elusive Implications

2016

Good self-control has been linked to adaptive outcomes such as better health, cohesive personal relationships, success in the workplace and at school, and less susceptibility to crime and addictions. In contrast, self-control failure is linked to maladaptive outcomes. Understanding the mechanisms by which self-control predicts behavior may assist in promoting better regulation and outcomes. A popular approach to understanding self-control is the strength or resource depletion model. Self-control is conceptualized as a limited resource that becomes depleted after a period of exertion resulting in self-control failure. The model has typically been tested using a sequential-task experimental p…

ERP Implementation in an SME: A Failure Case

2013

This study examines a failed enterprise resource planning (ERP) implementation in a small-and-medium-sized enterprise (SME). The improper handling of critical success factors (CSFs), particularly those relating to support from top management, project management, and the use of consultants, led to severe problems. This placed stress on the organization, caused employees to leave the company, workarounds, and led to serious errors in the systems and a significant cost overrun. This case study contributes to the literature on ERP implementation in SMEs. In particular, it contributes to our understanding of the socio-technical dynamics of ERP implementation projects. Failed ERP cases are little…

Comparing the Effect Size of School Level Support on Teachers’ Technology Integration

2020

Teachers are expected to lead the innovative use of Information Communication and Technology (ICT) at the classroom level of context. However, research literature shows that a number of factors influence their ICT pedagogical practices. Therefore, the present study investigates the influence of school level support on teacher educators’ technology integration. A mixed method is used to collect data through three focused interviews (N = 19) and self-completion survey (N = 136). The data collected is analysed both qualitatively and quantitatively. The result shows support for the model hypothesized and suggests that the ICT pedagogical practices of the teacher educators do not predict their t…

A New Methodology to Assess Territorial Competence for Sustainable Local Development: The READI® (Resources-Actors-Dynamics) Matrix

2021

[EN] The ability of a territory to manage certain sustainable development processes increasingly depends on its capacity to apply previous diagnostic processes to its current situation. For this reason, methodologies that facilitate the detection of needs and/or potentialities of the territory are key to meeting its anticipated sustainable development goals. We present the most notable results of the research methodology carried out in the province of Valencia (Spain) that has enabled the construction of a matrix of indicators that allow these previous diagnostic processes to be put into practice at a local level, based on the participation of the territory's socioeconomic actors.

From Waste to Resource – Utilising Residue from Ready-Made Concrete as New Aggregate

2021

Abstract A new admixture is available, to reduce the sludge produced from the cleansing of production and transportation equipment in the fresh concrete industry. The result is agglomerations of hardening concrete, that might be utilised for aggregate. Utilisation depends on adequate properties. This paper reports from investigations on the physical and mechanical properties of the aggregate and discussions on the performance relative to natural and recycled aggregates and towards requirements for utilisation. The findings indicate substantial potential for utilisation, supporting the reduction of waste for deposit and development of the concrete industry towards a circular economy.

Como as práticas ecológicas e o desperdício de alimentos influenciam o capital de marca do restaurante?

2020

Desalination. From a questioned resource to a necessary and strategic resource during drought situations for the water supply in the Segura River Bas…

2018
