A Crisis Management Serious Game for Responding Extreme Weather Event

Managing crisis with limited resources through a serious game is deemed as one of the ways of training and can be regarded as an alternative to the table-top exercise. This paper presents the so-called “Operasjon Tyrsdal” serious game, inspired by a real case of extreme weather that hit the west coast of Norway. This reference case is used to add realism to the game. Abstract The relevance of growing vines under semiarid conditions is universally accepted because of its impacts on social, economic and environmental aspects. Improving the knowledge of the soil–plant–atmosphere system related to the expression of vine growth allows the study of vine cover in wide areas. Redefining Creativity - Analyzing Definitions, Collocations, and Consequences

How holistically is human creativity defined, investigated, and understood? Until recently, most scientific research on creativity has focused on its positive side. However, creativity might not only be a desirable resource but also be a potential threat. In order to redefine creativity we need to analyze and understand definitions, collocations, and consequences of creativity. In this paper, we reviewed 42 explicit definitions and 120 collocations. The thematic analysis of our data reveals that the vast majority of creativity definitions do not emphasize the positive/negative aspects of the concept. This intervention study was conducted to document conditions under which a computer based literacy game (GraphoGame™) could enhance literacy skills of first grade students in an African city. The participants were first grade students from Government schools (N = 573). These students were randomly sampled into control (N = 314) and various intervention groups (N = 259). Analysis of RRM limitations and restricted transmission periods for VoIP over HSDPA

This paper studies how the performance of Voice over IP (VoIP) over High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HS-DPA) networks is affected if transmission to a User Equipment (UE) is stopped for specific amount of time during handover procedure. This paper also addresses the situation when it might be necessary to limit the number of UEs in a cell. The study showed that parameter settings for Radio Resource Management (RRM) algorithms can have an effect to the VoIP capacity: If handover lasts long enough for VoIP packets to be lost, or severe congestion occurs in a cell, VoIP capacity may be degraded.

The aim of this paper is to evaluate how Discontinuous Reception (DRX) cycles and related timers take effect to Voice over IP (VoIP) performance when High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) networks are in question. DRX cycles limit the scheduling freedom of users and increase battery saving opportunities in the User Equipment (UE) by allowing it to turn its receiver circuitry off for some periods of time. Prior work has concentrated mainly on optimizing the usage of radio resources when small bit rate delay critical services, like VoIP, are considered.
