Exploring translation strategies in video game localization

This paper addresses the issue of video game localisation focusing on the different strategies to be used from the point of view of Translation Studies. More precisely, the article explores the possible relation between the translation approaches used in the field and the different genres or textual typologies of video games. As the narrative techniques and the story lines of video games have become more complex and well-developed, the adaptation of games entails a serious challenge for translators. En este artículo se analizan las disciplinas y los temas de 1786 trabajos publicados en 16 revistas españolas de Ciencias de la Actividad Física y el Deporte (CCAFD), entre 1999 y 2005. La disciplina y el tema de cada artículo se asignaron mediante un proceso de categorización inductiva a partir del título, del resumen y de las palabras clave. Las disciplinas más activas son el conjunto de las especialidades Médicas (el 24,13% de los trabajos), la Didáctica (21,33%) y la Psicología (13,55%). Gender in translating lesbianism in The Second Sex

Drawing on three Chinese translations of the lesbian chapter in Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex, this paper examines at the micro level how the discussions on lesbianism in the work are translated and what role gender identity plays in the process of translation. Lesbianism has played an important part in feminism. However, homosexuality is still regarded as unacceptable to most Chinese people. Thus, an examination of translations of lesbianism in The Second Sex might be especially revealing in terms of representation of Western feminism. Two questions that seem to be at the heart of much of this research focus on what should be described and how this should be done, in other words on content selection and formulation of the description.
