Abstract Remote sensing techniques allow monitoring the Earth surface and acquiring worthwhile information that can be used efficiently in agro-hydrological systems. Satellite images associated to computational models represent reliable resources to estimate actual evapotranspiration fluxes, ETa, based on surface energy balance. The knowledge of ETa and its spatial distribution is crucial for a broad range of applications at different scales, from fields to large irrigation districts. Plant Response to Saline-Water Irrigation in a Sicilian Vineyard

This chapter presents results of a 3-year field investigation in a vineyard located in Sicily (Mazara del Vallo, Trapani) within the framework of the Project “Evolution of cropping systems as affected by climate change” (CLIMESCO). Soil-plant responses to two saline irrigation waters were determined by measuring soil hydrological characteristics, soil salinity, crop transpiration and stomatal conductance in field plots of a Sicilian vineyard. Using LEACHM model for evaluation and optimization of the use low quality water in citrus

Para evaluar el riesgo de salinizacion en suelos con cultivo de cítricos se utilizó el modelo LEACHM que fue calibrado y validado en 7 perfiles de la cuenca sedimentaria de Torreblanca (Castellón, España). Se aplicó un análisis de escenarios mediante la combinación de: cultivos, clima, suelos, tipo de riego y calidad de las aguas y se analizaron estrategias alternativas mediante la utilización de mezclas de aguas. Los índices estadísticos mostraron un buen ajuste del modelo en la zona radicular entre 200-600 mm y una sobreestimación de la humedad en los horizontes inferiores. Quantifying Irrigated Winter Wheat LAI in Argentina Using Multiple Sentinel-1 Incidence Angles

Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data provides an appealing opportunity for all-weather day or night Earth surface monitoring. The European constellation Sentinel-1 (S1) consisting of S1-A and S1-B satellites offers a suitable revisit time and spatial resolution for the observation of croplands from space. The C-band radar backscatter is sensitive to vegetation structure changes and phenology as well as soil moisture and roughness. It also varies depending on the local incidence angle (LIA) of the SAR acquisition’s geometry.
