Uzņēmuma risku uzskaites informācijas sistēmas un biznesa procesu nepārtrauktības plāna izstrādes projekts
2015
Human security: an analytical tool for disaster perception research
2015
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine the possible benefits arising from the application of the human security concept to analysing the disaster impacts. Design/methodology/approach – A three-piece human security analytical tool is synthesized by combining the discoveries in human security studies over the last two decades with the perspective of disaster studies focusing on the resilience and securitabilities of the affected societies. To illustrate the merit of the proposed analytical framework a specifically tailored social survey is used to measure the resilience of Ogre’s (Latvia) society after it faces major floods in 2013. It foresees that community’s resilience is inver…
Market Polarization due to Difference in Interface Implementation Efforts
2009
Another factor potentially affecting the evolution of the OSS/BSS software market is the high complexity of software interfaces. The software provided to a customer – a CSP – needs to be integrated with a number of heterogeneous subsystems deployed by the customer. If the number of integration interfaces is high, a vast amount of special knowledge is needed in the vendor organization. High integration efforts also take up the time of the compentent employees of the vendor organization, thereby reducing the number of customers which it is capable of serving. As a result, only few large vendors can compete in such market, and, due to a lack of competition, the evolution towards a horizontaliz…
Stochastic debt sustainability analysis for sovereigns and the scope for optimization modeling
2017
We argue that sovereign debt sustainability analysis must be augmented by stochastic correlated risk factors and a risk measure to capture tail effects. Crisis situations can thus be adequately specified and analyzed with sufficient accuracy to warrant the relevance of policy decisions. In this context there is significant scope for optimization modeling for both strategic planning and operational management. We discuss diverse aspects of the problem of debt sustainability and highlight modeling approaches that can be brought to bear on the problem. Results with the fictitious, but nor unrealistic, Kingdom of Atlantis, which is sinking under excessive debt, illustrate the proposed models.
Monitoring High-Quality Wine Production using Wireless Sensor Networks
2009
This work reports the experience on the design and deployment of a WSN-based system for monitoring the productive cycle of high-quality wine in a Sicilian winery. Besides providing the means for pervasive monitoring of the cultivated area, the project described here is aimed to support the producer in ensuring the overall quality of their production, in terms of accurate planning of interventions in the field, and preservation of the stored product. Wireless Sensor Networks are employed as the sensing infrastructure of a distributed system for the control of a prototypal productive chain; nodes have been deployed both in the field and in the cellar, where wine aging is performed, and data i…
Objectives and Work Plan
2012
The objective of this PhD thesis was the development of fast and sensitive methods for the characterization of vegetable oils according to their botanical origin, and for the characterization and authentication of olive oils in relation to their quality, genetic variety and geographical origin. For this purpose, oils selected considering each and every one of the factors discussed in the introduction section will be used.
A Review on Applications of Big Data for Disaster Management
2017
International audience; The term " disaster management " comprises both natural and man-made disasters. Highly pervaded with various types of sensors, our environment generates large amounts of data. Thus, big data applications in the field of disaster management should adopt a modular view, going from a component to nation scale. Current research trends mainly aim at integrating component, building, neighborhood and city levels, neglecting the region level for managing disasters. Current research on big data mainly address smart buildings and smart grids, notably in the following areas: energy waste management, prediction and planning of power generation needs, improved comfort, usability …
Ex Ante evaluation of gene flow in oilseed rape with cropping system models
2013
Chapitre 4; Oilseed rape (OSR) genes can escape fields in space via pollen and seeds, and in time via volunteers resulting from seeds lost before or during oilseed rape harvest. When varieties co-exist, e.g. genetically-modified (GM) and non-GM varieties, this spatio-temporal gene flow can lead to the adventitious presence of GM seeds in non-GM harvests and thus cause financial losses for farmers and cooperatives. Gene flow depends on crop locations, succession, and management, as well as the location and management of semi-natural areas such as roadverges. The objective of this investigation was to present a simulation methodology using the spatially-explicit cropping system model GENESYS …
Developing a framework for designing humanitarian blockchain projects
2021
International audience; Blockchain technology promises to improve the efficiency, transparency, and accountability of humanitarian operations. Yet at the same time, especially the humanitarian context with its characteristic volatility poses unique challenges to any technology. Most prominent are the humanitarian principles that are fundamental to humanitarian operations. These ethical principles are set to protect the most vulnerable populations. Designing blockchain projects in the humanitarian context therefore requires a systematic framework that helps humanitarians make critical choices. While some design instructions can be found for commercial applications, the humanitarian context re…
