Analysis of the results of the study shows that prevention and treatment of osteoporosis risk factors are crucial in reducing the incidence to prescribed treatment and because of the most frequent cause of discontinuation of drug treatment (81,6%) is represented by a separate decision of the patient, it requires an extensive campaign oublic awareness on the problem of osteoporosis and its debilitating complications.

We investigated the effect of pioglitazone in comparison with and in combination with simvastatin on insulin resistance, plasma adiponectin, postprandial plasma glucose, insulin, and intact proinsulin levels in a nondiabetic population at cardiovascular risk. One hundred twenty-five nondiabetic patients at cardiovascular risk were randomized to pioglitazone (PIO), pioglitazone and simvastatin (PIO/SIM), or simvastatin (SIM) treatments.
