Liminality and rites of passage in Guerlain’s perfumeries

This research studies the process of creating the shopping experience in Guerlain’s luxury perfumeries in Paris. Our analysis focuses on the intermediate spaces accompanying the crossing of commercial boundaries, and on their appropriation by visitors, resulting in rites of passage. We analyze the shopping experience in Guerlain’s luxury perfumeries in Paris which presents many designs of stores, located in various environments. Our results show that in this context the creation of the shopping experience is a coproduction resulting from the interaction between the types of intermediate spaces delimiting the store, the ritualization of experience and the appropriation process of consumers.

With a corpus of one hundred and twenty-seven illuminations, from eighty-one manuscripts painted in France in the 14th and 15th centuries, my thesis examines the construction of the lady’s character, through the texts and the imagery.Between imagination and historical reality, we studying how the representations of this idealized figure, praised by troubadours and authors of the late Middle Ages, influence social relationship about the medieval noble woman. The paper analyses two different mythical traditions related to the final moment of the sacrifice of Iphigenia, i.e. the death of the girl or her rescue by Artemis. The aim is to enquire wich of the two versions Euripides has chosen for the final of his drama Iphigenia in Aulis. The exodus of the tragedy when Iphigenia is substituted by a deer, has been considered spurious. For that reason, many scholars concluded that the drama ended with the death of the protagonist. However, the analysis of the mythic-ritual context and the dramatic plot can suggest that the safety of Iphigenia was the true conclusion.

[ES] Los calderos atlánticos de remaches de la Península Ibérica son datados con frecuencia en los ss. VIII-VII, aunque recientes publicaciones plantean que el origen de esta producción metálica en ámbito peninsular podría ser anterior. Intentamos mostrar, sobre la base de contextos estratigráficos y dataciones radiocarbónicas, que los calderos atlánticos de remaches aparecen en la Península Ibérica en el transcurso de los ss. XI-X cal BC.
