Synthesis of substituted piperidines by enantioselective desymmetrizing intramolecular aza-Michael reactions.

2018

An organocatalytic enantioselective intramolecular aza-Michael reaction has been described for the first time in a desymmetrization process employing substrates different from cyclohexadienones. By using 9-amino-9-deoxy-epi-hydroquinine as the catalyst and trifluoroacetic acid as a co-catalyst, a series of enantiomerically enriched 2,5-and 2,6-disubstituted piperidines have been obtained in good yields and with moderate diastereoselectivity. Depending on the catalyst/co-catalyst loading ratio, either the major or the minor diastereoisomer of the final piperidine products was achieved with high levels of enantioselectivity. Finally, some mechanistic insights have been considered by means of …

Protonation and Electrochemical Properties of Pyridyl- and Sulfonatophenyl-Substituted Porphyrins in Nonaqueous Media

2017

International audience; The protonation and electrochemical properties of positively charged and negatively charged porphyrins are reported in up to five different nonaqueous solvents. The positively charged porphyrins are represented by mono- and di-pyridyl derivatives having the formula Pyx(PhMe)4-xPM, where P=the dianion of the porphyrin macrocycle, PhMe is a meso-tolyl group, Py a meso-pyridyl group, x=1 or 2, and M=H2, NiII, CuII, ZnII, or CoII. The negatively charged porphyrins are comprised of meso-tetrasulfonato derivatives having the formula [(R)4(TPPS)H2]4−(X+)4, where [(TPPS)H2]4− represents the porphyrin with four SO3− groups on the meso-phenyl substituents of the macrocycle, R=…

Stepwise Construction of Heterobimetallic Cages by an Extended Molecular Library Approach.

2017

Two novel heterobimetallic complexes, a trigonal-bipyramidal and a cubic one, have been synthesized and characterized using the same C3-symmetric metalloligand, prepared by a simple subcomponent self-assembly strategy. Adopting the molecular library approach, we chose a mononuclear, preorganized iron(II) complex as the metalloligand capable of self-assembly into a trigonal-bipyramidal or a cubic aggregate upon coordination to cis-protected C2-symmetric palladium(II) or unprotected tetravalent palladium(II) ions, respectively. The trigonal-bipyramidal complex was characterized by NMR and UV–vis spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and single-crystal X-ray diffrac…

Enhanced Interplay between Host–Guest and Spin-Crossover Properties through the Introduction of an N Heteroatom in 2D Hofmann Clathrates

2021

Controlled modulation of the spin-crossover (SCO) behavior through the sorption-desorption of invited molecules is an extensively exploited topic because of its potential applications in molecular sensing. For this purpose, understanding the mechanisms by which the spin-switching properties are altered by guest molecules is of paramount importance. Here, we show an experimental approach revealing a direct probe of how the interplay between SCO and host-guest chemistry is noticeably activated by chemically tuning the host structure. Thus, the axial ligand 4-phenylpyridine (4-PhPy) in the 2D Hofmann clathrates {Fe(4-PhPy)2[M(CN)4]} (PhPyM; M = Pt, Pd) is replaced by 2,4-bipyridine (2,4-Bipy),…

Formation and trapping of the thermodynamically unfavoured inverted-hemicucurbit[6]uril

2019

Amplification of a thermodynamically unfavoured macrocyclic product through the directed shift of the equilibrium between dynamic covalent chemistry library members is difficult to achieve. We show for the first time that during condensation of formaldehyde and cis-N,N'-cyclohexa-1,2-diylurea formation of inverted-cis-cyclohexanohemicucurbit[6]uril (i-cis-cycHC[6]) can be induced at the expense of thermodynamically favoured cis-cyclohexanohemicucurbit[6]uril (cis-cycHC[6]). The formation of i-cis-cycHC[6] is enhanced in low concentration of the templating chloride anion and suppressed in excess of this template. We found that reaction selectivity is governed by the solution-based template-a…

Comparative hydroamination of aniline and substituted anilines with styrene on different zeolites, triflate based catalysts and their physical mixtur…

2014

Abstract Catalytic performances of different zeolites (Beta and mordenites), scandium triflate based catalysts, mesoporous UVM-7 encapsulated scandium triflate and physical mixtures prepared under ultrasound irradiation were evaluated in the hydroamination of aniline and substituted anilines with styrene. The performances of these catalysts were controlled by the type of acidity and strength. Thus, the conversion was mainly controlled by the strength of the acid sites and their accessibility, while the selectivity appeared to be controlled by the Lewis/Bronsted type of acidity. Lewis acid catalysts directed the reactions mainly to the formation of the Markovnikov adducts while Bronsted acid…

A review of environmental impacts of winter road maintenance

2019

Abstract The need for winter road maintenance (WRM) is changing in cold regions due to climate change. How the different modes of WRM will contribute to future overall emissions from infrastructure is therefore of great interest to road owners with a view to a more sustainable, low-carbon future. In the quest for near-zero-emissions transport, all aspects of the transport sector need to be accounted for in the search for possible mitigation of emissions. This study used 35 peer-reviewed articles published between 2000 and 2018 to map available information on the environmental impacts and effect of WRM and reveal any research gaps. The articles were categorized according to their research th…

On numerical broadening of particle size spectra: a condensational growth study using PyMPDATA 1.0

2021

Abstract. The work discusses the diffusional growth in particulate systems such as atmospheric clouds. It focuses on the Eulerian modeling approach in which the evolution of the probability density function describing the particle size spectrum is carried out using a fixed-bin discretization. The numerical diffusion problem inherent to the employment of the fixed-bin discretization is scrutinized. The work focuses on the applications of MPDATA family of numerical schemes. Several MPDATA variants are explored including: infinite-gauge, non-oscillatory, third-order-terms and recursive antidiffusive correction (double pass donor cell, DPDC) options. Methodology for handling coordinate transfor…

The Making of the New European Wind Atlas - Part 2: production and evaluation

2020

This is the second of two papers that document the creation of the New European Wind Atlas (NEWA). In Part 1, we described the sensitivity experiments and accompanying evaluation done to arrive at the final mesoscale model setup used to produce the mesoscale wind atlas. In this paper, Part 2, we document how we made the final wind atlas product, covering both the production of the mesoscale climatology generated with the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model and the microscale climatology generated with the Wind Atlas Analysis and Applications Program (WAsP). The paper includes a detailed description of the technical and practical aspects that went into running the mesoscale simulati…
