Robust model calibration using determinist and stochastic performance metrics
2016
International audience; The aeronautics industry has benefited from the use of numerical models to supplement or replace the costly design-build-test paradigm. These models are often calibrated using experimental data to obtain optimal fidelity-to-data but compensating effects between calibration parameters can complicate the model selection process due to the non-uniqueness of the solution. One way to reduce this ambiguity is to include a robustness requirement to the selection criteria. In this study, the info-gap decision theory is used to represent the lack of knowledge resulting from compensating effects and a robustness analysis is performed to investigate the impact of uncertainty on…
Representation and estimation of spectral reflectances using projection on PCA and wavelet bases
2008
In this article, we deal with the problem of spectral reflectance function representation and estimation in the context of multispectral imaging. Because the reconstruction of such functions is an inverse problem, slight variations in input data completely skew the expected results. Therefore, stabilizing the reconstruction process is necessary. To do this, we propose to use wavelets as basis functions, and we compare those with Fourier and PCA bases. We present the idea and compare these three methods, which belong to the class of linear models. The PCA method is training-set dependent and confirms its robustness when applied to reflectance estimation of the training sets. Fourier and wave…
Decision making in multiobjective optimization problems under uncertainty: balancing between robustness and quality
2018
As an emerging research field, multiobjective robust optimization employs minmax robustness as the most commonly used concept. Light robustness is a concept in which a parameter, tolerable degradations, can be used to control the loss in the objective function values in the most typical scenario for gaining in robustness. In this paper, we develop a lightly robust interactive multiobjective optimization method, LiRoMo, to support a decision maker to find a most preferred lightly robust efficient solution with a good balance between robustness and the objective function values in the most typical scenario. In LiRoMo, we formulate a lightly robust subproblem utilizing an achievement scalarizi…
Deflation-Based FastICA With Adaptive Choices of Nonlinearities
2014
Deflation-based FastICA is a popular method for independent component analysis. In the standard deflation-base d approach the row vectors of the unmixing matrix are extracted one after another always using the same nonlinearities. In prac- tice the user has to choose the nonlinearities and the efficiency and robustness of the estimation procedure then strongly depends on this choice as well as on the order in which the components are extracted. In this paper we propose a novel adaptive two- stage deflation-based FastICA algorithm that (i) allows one to use different nonlinearities for different components and (ii) optimizes the order in which the components are extracted. Based on a consist…
Stabilization of discrete-time systems with stochastic sampling
2012
This paper is concerned with the stabilization problem of discrete-time systems with stochastic sampling. It is assumed that there are a single-rate sampling in the plant input and two stochastic sampling rates in the controller input whose occurrence probabilities are given constants and satisfy a Bernoulli distribution. By Lyapunov function approach, a new sufficient condition is presented for the mean square asymptotic stability of the system. Based on this, the design procedure for stabilization controllers is proposed. Finally, an example is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed techniques.
Robust output feedback control of non-collocated low-damped oscillating load
2021
For systems with order of dynamics higher than two and oscillating loads with low damping, a non-collocation of the sensing and control can deteriorate robustness of the feedback and, in worst case, even bring it to instability. Furthermore, for a contactless sensing of the oscillating mechanical load, like in the system under investigation, the control structure is often restricted to the single proportional feedback only. This paper proposes a novel robust feedback control scheme for a low-damped fourth-order system using solely the measured load displacement. For reference tracking, the loop shaping design relies on a band reject filter, while the plant uncertainties are used as robustne…
2014
This paper investigates an evolutionary-based designing system for automated sizing of analog integrated circuits (ICs). Two evolutionary algorithms, genetic algorithm and PSO (Parswal particle swarm optimization) algorithm, are proposed to design analog ICs with practical user-defined specifications. On the basis of the combination of HSPICE and MATLAB, the system links circuit performances, evaluated through specific electrical simulation, to the optimization system in the MATLAB environment, for the selected topology. The system has been tested by typical and hard-to-design cases, such as complex analog blocks with stringent design requirements. The results show that the design specifica…
Neural Networks and Metabolic Networks: Fault Tolerance and Robustness Features
2009
The main objective of this work is the comparison between metabolic networks and neural networks (ANNs) in terms of their robustness and fault tolerance capabilities. In the context of metabolic networks errors are random removal of network nodes, while attacks are failures in the network caused intentionally. In the contest of neural networks errors are usually defined configurations of input submitted to the network that are affected by noise, while the failures are defined as the removal of some network neurons. This study have proven that ANNs are very robust networks, with respect to the presence of noise in the inputs, and the partial removal of some nodes, until it reached a critical…
Zymomonas mobilis metabolism: Novel tools and targets for its rational engineering
2020
Abstract Zymomonas mobilis is an α-proteobacterium that interests the biofuel industry due to its perfect ethanol fermentation yields. From its first description as a bacterial isolate in fermented alcoholic beverages to date, Z. mobilis has been rigorously studied in directions basic and applied. The Z. mobilis powerful Entner-Doudoroff glycolytic pathway has been the center of rigorous biochemical studies and, aside from ethanol, it has attracted interest in terms of high-added-value chemical manufacturing. Energetic balances and the effects of respiration have been explored in fundamental directions as also in applications pursuing strain enhancement and the utilization of alternative ca…
