Localized domain wall nucleation dynamics in asymmetric ferromagnetic rings revealed by direct time-resolved magnetic imaging
2016
We report time-resolved observations of field-induced domain wall nucleation in asymmetric ferromagnetic rings using single direction field pulses and rotating fields. We show that the asymmetric geometry of a ring allows for controlling the position of nucleation events, when a domain wall is nucleated by a rotating magnetic field. Direct observation by scanning transmission x-ray microscopy (STXM) reveals that the nucleation of domain walls occurs through the creation of transient ripplelike structures. This magnetization state is found to exhibit a surprisingly high reproducibility even at room temperature and we determine the combinations of field strengths and field directions that all…
Metrological Properties of the Test Setup for Determination Shielding Effectiveness of the Industrial Cable Connectors
2017
Abstract The paper presents results related to assessment of the repeatability and reproducibility of the measurement test setup for determination the relative value of the shielding effectiveness coefficient of the industrial connectors. The construction of the proposed test setup, the measurement method and the procedure for the analysis of measurement results were described. To determine the value of the repeatability and reproducibility coefficient, the two–way analysis of variance was used, which additionally allows for an assessment of the influence of individual sources of variance. The measurements and their analysis were conducted for several frequencies in the range up to 1 GHz. A…
An Experimental Study of Waveguide Coupled Microwave Heating with Conventional Multicusp Negative Ion Source
2015
Negative ion production with conventional multicusp plasma chambers utilizing 2.45 GHz microwave heating is demonstrated. The experimental results were obtained with the multicusp plasma chambers and extraction systems of the RFdriven RADIS ion source and the filament driven arc discharge ion source LIISA. A waveguide microwave coupling system, which is almost similar to the one used with the SILHI ion source, was used. The results demonstrate that at least one third of negative ion beam obtained with inductive RF-coupling (RADIS) or arc discharge (LIISA) can be achieved with 1 kW of 2.45 GHz microwave power in CW mode without any modification of the plasma chamber. The co-extracted electro…
High sensitivity characterization of the nonlinear electric susceptibility of a glass ceramic in the microwave range
2019
The nonlinear electric susceptibility of a glass ceramic is characterized in the microwave range by measuring intermodulation of two high-power signals. To achieve the necessary sensitivity for dielectric nonlinearities, the setup ensures that the measured intermodulation can be ascribed to the material under test while all other intermodulation sources are suppressed. This is achieved by coupling three dielectric resonators in a cut-off waveguide. The third order nonlinearity of the glass ceramic is found to be χ3/er = (1.6 ± 0.8) × 10−15 m2/V2 at 950 MHz. The magnitude is comparable to the previously measured high-end sintered ceramics. The power of the intermodulation signal as a functio…
Very Long Term Stabilization of a 2D Magnet down to the Monolayer for Device Integration
2020
2D materials have recently demonstrated a strong potential for spintronic applications. This has been further reinforced by the discovery of ferromagnetic 2D layers. Nevertheless, the fragility of ...
High-pressure x-ray-absorption study of GaSe
2002
The III-VI layered semiconductor InSe has been studied by high-pressure single crystal x-ray absorption spectroscopy up to a maximum pressure of 14 GPa. The In-Se distance has been measured in both the low- pressure layered phase and the high-pressure NaCl phase. The bond compressibility in the layered phase is lower than the ``a'' crystallographic parameter compressibility, which implies an increase of the angle between the In-Se bond and the layer plane. Under plausible hypothesis, a description of the evolution of the whole structure with pressure is given. In particular, the intralayer distance is observed to increase with increasing pressure. A plausible precursor defect and a simple m…
Computer-aided analysis and design procedure for rotating induction machine magnetic circuits and windings
2018
The aim of this study is to present a new, accurate, and user-friendly software procedure for the analysis and rapid design of rotating induction machine windings, considering both the electric and the magnetic specifications of the machine itself. This procedure is a valid aid for quick first stage design without the necessity of using finite element method (FEM)-based design procedures. FEM can be used in a second design phase in order to refine the first stage results. The design procedure is hereafter outlined and some examples show its capability.
Structural, electronic and energetic effects in heterocyclic fluorene derivatives fused with a fulvene unit
2019
Abstract A set of 36 heterocyclic (B, N and O) fluorene (C) derivatives fused in nine ways with fulvene ring have been analyzed by means of different local aromaticity criteria. Molecular geometry of analyzed compounds were optimized at B3LYP/6-311++G(2d,2p) level of theory. The evaluation of the local aromaticity has been carried out through the use of the geometry-based harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) and the magnetism-based zz‐component of the nucleus independent chemical shifts calculated 1 A above the ring center (NICS1zz) indices as well as one aromaticity index derived from the Quantum Theory Atoms in Molecules (QTAIM), i.e. the para-delocalization index (PDI). Quasi-RRHO approximation and DFT study for understanding the mechanism and kinetics of nitration reaction of benzonitrile with nitronium ion
2021
Abstract The nitration reaction of benzonitrile with nitronium cation, NO2+, has been studied within the Molecular Electron Density Theory at the MN15-L/aug-cc-pVTZ level of theory. For this electrophilic aromatic substitution (EAS) reaction, three regioisomeric reaction paths have been studied. Quasi-RRHO approximation was applied to consider the vibrational contribution to entropy and correct the Gibbs free energy profile of the reaction in the solvent phase. Benzonitrile is less nucleophilically activated than benzene due to the presence of the electron-withdrawing CN group the meta position is the more favorable reaction path of this EAS reaction. The analysis of ELF and AIM demonstrate…
Antineutrino monitoring of spent nuclear fuel
2016
Military and civilian applications of nuclear energy have left a significant amount of spent nuclear fuel over the past 70 years. Currently, in many countries world wide, the use of nuclear energy is on the rise. Therefore, the management of highly radioactive nuclear waste is a pressing issue. In this letter, we explore antineutrino detectors as a tool for monitoring and safeguarding nuclear waste material. We compute the flux and spectrum of antineutrinos emitted by spent nuclear fuel elements as a function of time, and we illustrate the usefulness of antineutrino detectors in several benchmark scenarios. In particular, we demonstrate how a measurement of the antineutrino flux can help to…
