Canal transportation caused by a new instrumentation technique and three standard techniques

The ability of three different enlarging techniques (balanced force concept, step-back, and recapitulation) and a prototype system to maintain the original canal path during root canal preparation were compared, in vitro, with a theoretical ideally prepared root canal. Measurements were made at the concave and convex sides of the canal at four different levels (1, 4, 5, and 7 mm from apical, respectively). Simulated root canals embedded in clear casting resin and an enlarging computer-supported device were used for this study. Efficacy of NaOCl/H2O2irrigation and GaAlAs laser in decontamination of root canals in vitro

Background and Objectives To investigate the bactericidal effect of an 809 nm semiconductor laser alone, and in combination with NaOCl/H2O2 irrigation in root canals in vitro. Study Design/Materials and Methods A total of 72 human single-rooted teeth extracted for periodontal reasons were included. The crowns were removed, the roots shortened to a length of 12 mm, and the canals enlarged up to an apical size of #50 file. Ossifying odontogenic fibroma: A rare case report

Odontogenic fibroma (OF) is a rare benign odontogenic neoplasm that is most commonly found in the mandibular/premolar region of female patients in the second to fourth decades of life. Well-defined radiolucent lesions that may induce root resorption are normally observed. Rare variants of OF have been described in the prior literature, including references to: 1) giant cell lesions, 2) amyloid-like protein deposition, and 3) ossifying variants. Stunted root development: A rare dental complication of Stevens-Johnson syndrome

Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) is a severe cutaneous reaction seen rarely in clinical practice. Most often, it occurs as an adverse reaction to certain drugs. When it affects children at a very young age, arrested tooth root development may also be seen. We present a case of a 13 year old boy who suffered from SJ syndrome at the age of 7 years.
