Introduction. Systematic anatomical studies corroborate the anatomical complexity of the root canal system. Deviations from the norm such as multiple orifices, apical deltas, accessory canals and other variations are frequent. Objectives. To present clinical reports of mandibular molars with three canals in the mesial root and two in vitro studies of the morphology of these canals, together with a review of the literature. Despite the numerous attempts at clarification that have been made over the past hundred years or so, there are still many doubts surrounding the etymology of Gr. μέγας, μεγάλη, μέγα “big, great, mighty”, especially with regard to the relation between the Greek adjective and forms attested in other Indo-European languages. The paper follows a new track. By having recourse to É. Benveniste’s theory of the structure of the Indo-European root, a stem II *sm-eĝ- is supposed in which *s- could share the characteristics of the so-called ‘mobile s-’. Thanks to this hypothesis most of the pre-existing doubts are dispelled.

Rethinking Vygotskian Cultural-Historical Theory in Light of Pepperian Root Metaphor Theory : Dynamic Interplay of the Organicism and Contextualism

This article examines Vygotskian cultural-historical theory by putting it into dialogue with Stephen Pepper's root metaphor theory. I focus on Vygotsky's insistence on the dialectical unity of the phylogenetic and ontogenetic domains in ontogenesis, which he articulated in his account of how the natural-psychological and cultural-psychological lines of development merge with the emergence of speeching in ontogenesis. I compare Vygotsky's two genetic domains and Pepper's world hypotheses of organicism and contextualism. In this paper the dynamics of the Spanish public debt-GDP ratio is analysed during the period 1850–2021. We use recent procedures to test for explosive bubbles in the presence under time- varying volatility (Harvey et al., 2016; Harvey et al., 2019, 2020; Kurozumi et al., 2022) in order to test the explosive behavior of Spanish public debt over this long period. We extend previous analysis of Esteve and Prats (2022) where assume constant unconditional volatility in the underlying error process.
