Changes in the Phytoalexin Content of Various Vitis Spp. in Response to Ultraviolet C Elicitation

The phytoalexin production potential of three American Vitis species and that of three cultivars of Vitis vinifera were evaluated in response to UV-C irradiation. Time course changes in resveratrol, piceid, epsilon-viniferin, and pterostilbene contents were studied within 3 days after a short UV-C irradiation. Results show that the two major stilbenes accumulated as a response to UV-C elicitation are resveratrol and epsilon-viniferin, a resveratrol dehydrodimer, the concentration of both compounds usually reaching quantities >100 microgram/g of fresh weight. Copper plays a dual role in aerobic organisms, as both an essential and a potentially toxic element. To ensure copper availability while avoiding its toxic effects, organisms have developed complex homeostatic networks to control copper uptake, distribution, and utilization. In eukaryotes, including yeasts and mammals, high affinity copper uptake is mediated by the Ctr family of copper transporters. Chionaeosides A–D, Triterpene Saponins from Paronychia chionaea

Four new triterpenoid saponins, chionaeosides A-D (1-4) were isolated from the roots of Paronychia chionaea. On the basis of their spectroscopic data, the structures of the new saponins were established as 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosylgypsogenic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1--3)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1--6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (1), 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosylgypsogenic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1--6)-beta-D-glucopyranoside (2), 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosylgypsogenic acid 28-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside (3), and 3-O-alpha-L-arabinopyranosylgypsogenic acid (4).

Abstract Solanum torvum is the eggplant ( Solanum melongena ) relative most commonly used for grafting even if the nursery production of eggplants grafted onto this rootstock has some issues related to its long, irregular and erratic germination and slow growth and development of seedlings. EFFECT OF DIFFERENT ROOTSTOCKS ON VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF JAPANESE AND EUROPEAN PLUM CULTIVARS IN SOUTHERN ITALY: PRELIMINARY RESULTS

The preliminary results of a new rootstock trial for Japanese and European plum cultivars are reported. Two clonal Prunus cerasifera ('Myrobalan 29C' and 'MrS 2/5'), two Prunus domestica ('Penta' and 'Tetra') and the peach × almond 'GF 677' were tested in a warm and dry climate of Southern Italy where the plum industry is recently increasing, particularly for the Japanese type. 'GF 677' showed the most vigorous habit together with a higher production at the first bearing year in comparison with 'Myrobalan 29C', while the two P. domestica types resulted in very low vigour. :  Grape phylloxera is a plant parasite that has started to become a pest again in European viticulture in spite of the use of grafted rootstocks. Since the middle of the 1980s, there have been various reports of vine damage caused by phylloxera. It was shown that in some cases there is no direct correlation between the occurrence of phylloxera and vine damage. In this context, phytopathogenic microorganisms, especially fungi, are mentioned in literature. Cytotoxic glycosides from the roots of Weigela x “Bristol Ruby”

International audience; Seven oleanane-type glycosides were extracted and isolated by various chromatographic methods from the roots of Weigela x "Bristol Ruby" (1-7), six previously undescribed (1-6) and a known one (7). Their structures were assigned by spectroscopic analysis mainly 2D NMR and mass spectrometry (ESIMS). Selected triterpenoid glycosides (1-3, 6, 7) displayed a good cytotoxic activity against a mouse colon cancer cell line CT26.

Effect of leaf removal and ripening stage on the content of quercetin glycosides in Sangiovese grapes

Quercetin haze has been observed over the last few years in some aged Sangiovese wines. This problem could be due to an excess of the quercetin in the wine. Leaf removal increases the exposition of clusters to sunlight, which may enhance flavonol synthesis in the grapes.
