Multivariate nonparametric tests in a randomized complete block design

2003

AbstractIn this paper multivariate extensions of the Friedman and Page tests for the comparison of several treatments are introduced. Related unadjusted and adjusted treatment effect estimates for the multivariate response variable are also found and their properties discussed. The test statistics and estimates are analogous to the traditional univariate methods. In test constructions, the univariate ranks are replaced by multivariate spatial ranks (J. Nonparam. Statist. 5 (1995) 201). Asymptotic theory is developed to provide approximations for the limiting distributions of the test statistics and estimates. Limiting efficiencies of the tests and treatment effect estimates are found in the…

Multivariate factor analysis of Girgentana goat milk composition

2005

The interpretation of the several variables that contribute to defining milk quality is difficult due to the high degree of correlation among them. In this case, one of the best methods of statistical processing is factor analysis, which belongs to the multivariate groups; for our study this particular statistical approach was employed. A total of 1485 individual goat milk samples from 117 Girgentana goats, were collected fortnightly from January to July, and analysed for physical and chemical composition, and clotting properties. Milk pH and tritable acidity were within the normal range for fresh goat milk. Morning milk yield resulted 704 ± 323 g with 3.93 ± 1.23% and 3.…

Measurement and Analysis of the Raman Intensities of 12CD4

1995

0022-2852; The stimulated Raman spectrum of 12CD4 was recorded at high resolution, in the spectral range 1963 to 2260 cm(-1). Intensities of the rovibrational transitions were estimated by fitting the line profiles. The recorded elementary spectrum was 1 cm(-1) wide; all recordings were then intensity calibrated. Afterward, the relative Raman intensities were analyzed by using a polarizability model developed previously [A. Boutahar and M. Loete, Can. J. Phys. 69, 26-35 (1991); J. P. Champion, M. Loete, and G. Pierre, in ''Spectroscopy of the Earth's Atmosphere and Interstellar Molecules'' (K. Narahari Rao and A. Weber, Eds.), pp. 388-397, Academic Press, Boston. 1992]. The investigated reg…

Q-switched mode locking noise-like pulse generation from a thulium-doped all-fiber laser based on nonlinear polarization rotation

2021

Abstract Q-switched mode locking (QML) noise-like pulse (NLP) emission from an all-fiber thulium-doped laser based on the nonlinear polarization rotation effect is reported. The QML emission is obtained in a cavity with net anomalous dispersion in a pump power interval in between the CW laser threshold and the threshold of the NLP regime. Highest-energy QML pulses were observed with a repetition rate of 812 kHz with a pump power of 520 mW at the optical wavelength of 1881.09 nm. A maximum overall energy of 460 nJ at an average output power of 6.4 mW was reached, which corresponds to a burst of mode-locked noise-like sub-pulses with 8.7 ns of pulse duration within a QML envelope of 11 µs. Th…

Determination of accurate rest frequencies and hyperfine structure parameters of cyanobutadiyne, HC5N

2020

Very accurate transition frequencies of HC$_5$N were determined between 5.3 and 21.4 GHz with a Fourier transform microwave spectrometer. The molecules were generated by passing a mixture of HC$_3$N and C$_2$H$_2$ highly diluted in neon through a discharge valve followed by supersonic expansion into the Fabry-Perot cavity of the spectrometer. The accuracies of the data permitted us to improve the experimental $^{14}$N nuclear quadrupole coupling parameter considerably and the first experimental determination of the $^{14}$N nuclear spin-rotation parameter. The transition frequencies are also well suited to determine in astronomical observations the local speed of rest velocities in molecula…

Physics at CERN's Antiproton Decelerator

2013

The Antiproton Decelerator of CERN began operation in 1999 to serve experiments for studies of CPT invariance by precision laser and microwave spectroscopy of antihydrogen ($\bar{\rm H}$) and antiprotonic helium ($\bar{p}{\rm He}^+$). The first 12 years of operation saw cold $\bar{\rm H}$ synthesized by overlapping clouds of positrons ($e^+$) and antiprotons ($\bar{p}$) confined in magnetic Penning traps. Cold $\bar{\rm H}$ was also produced in collisions between Rydberg positronium atoms and $\bar{p}$. Ground-state $\bar{\rm H}$ was later trapped for up to $\sim 1000$ s in a magnetic bottle trap, and microwave transitions excited between its hyperfine levels. In the $\bar{p}{\rm He}^+$ ato…

Ion traps and their application in spectroscopy

1996

The general behaviour of Paul- and Penning ion traps is briefly described and some emphasis is given to the storage of highly charged ions. In the second part recent examples of laser and microwave spectroscopy on stored ions are given which illustrate the high precision and high sensitivity of these devices. We point out the possible application to laser spectroscopy on highly charged ions.

Mainz/PSI Φ-factory design considerations

1991

Abstract Design considerations for a Φ-factory with a Luminosity of the order of 10 33 cm −2 s −1 lead to the concept of a multi-bunch round beam double storage ring with supercoducting solenoids for micro-beta focusing and beam rotation. Simulations of the beam-beam-interaction indicate, that significantly higher beam-beam-parameters may become possible with round beams. A rough draft design of a round beam Φ-factory is presented.
