The Market Reorientation of Farms: The Case of Olive Growing in the Nebrodi Area

2014

In addition to safeguarding the landscape, olive growing makes a unique contribution to protecting the environment and the agricultural ecosystem. Olive growing in mountainous and hilly areas is severely constrained by structural limitations. Rural tourism can be a potential strategy to increase the competitiveness of olive-growing activities. After an initial analysis of the relationship between landscape, tourism, and olive growing, this study focused on olive growing in the Nebrodi area. In particular, we examined two case studies of olive farms to analyze the related production costs and market positioning strategies.

An analysis of the stability of rural tourism as a desired condition for sustainable tourism

2019

Abstract Tourism is a key sector in the sustainable development of rural environments. Its ability to create stable employment and an acceptable level of profits is conditioned by the stability of tourist activity throughout the year. This paper compares the level of seasonality of a group of rural destinations to that of coastal and urban destinations. By doing so, we intend to determine whether seasonality-related problems exist in the rural environment or not. The second aim is related to the first one: the proposal of a new, more comprehensive and objective methodology that can measure the intensity of seasonality based on a DP2 synthetic indicator. The DP2 indicator groups information …

The virtuous cycle of stakeholder engagement in developing a sustainability culture: Salcheto winery

2020

Abstract Stakeholder engagement in sustainability represents a powerful driver for value creation. Drawing from stakeholder theory, this paper explores how a firm with a proactive sustainable behaviour engages stakeholders in developing innovation and creating value. A longitudinal, single case study of the Salcheto winery was carried out. Since the late 1990s, Salcheto has been at the forefront of wine eco-innovation and it has played a key role in the development of Montepulciano (Tuscany, Italy) as one of the first sustainable wine clusters worldwide. The development of a sustainable wine culture is one of the firm's various innovations. In doing so, the firm has had to face three challe…

Dynamics of the termination of global alliances: probing the past, analyzing the present and defining the frontiers for future research

2022

PurposeWhile the number of global alliance terminations in the business world has grown steadily during the past few decades, the scholarly literature on strategic alliance (SA) termination remains limited. This research paper aims to perform a bibliometric analysis of the literature on alliance termination and propose a model for future research agenda that links the termination phase to the pre-alliance termination phase and post alliance termination phase.Design/methodology/approachA search query on global alliance termination identified a total of 69 research papers from the Scopus database, and a bibliometric analysis was performed using the bibliometrix R-package and VOSviewer. The an…

MARKETING AND INNOVATIONS IN CHEMICAL AGRI-INDUSTRY THROUGH THE SWOT AND PEST ANALYSIS

2015

This paper is dedicated to the reflection of innovations in the mirror of marketing. The best way to do so is to consider specific product, company or market. The production of mineral fertilizers is one of the most important branches in the chemical industry. The potash market is exceptional in characteristics, which make it an interesting object for marketing analysis with emphasis on innovations. The comparative marketing analysis of main potash producers has been performed in order to delineate the best potash supplier for EU market. SWOT and PEST analysis as well as Porter's five competitive forces model were used. It has very important economic advantages aroused from Canadian tax sys…

Influence of Coherent Context for Positioning Distinctive and Iconic Sicilian Sparkling Wines: Effect of a Sensorial Experience on a Gulet

2022

Spumante wines produced in Sicily region (southern Italy) have sensorial characteristics significantly different from those produced in other Italian regions, because of the great differences of terroir. Offering a product included in a coherent and consistent context allows consumers to differentiate in the marketplace. The aim of this study is to propose solutions for Sicilian wineries for positioning Sicilian Spumante in the market, based on empirical data. Moreover, it was investigated whether a positive experience in a context consistent with the Sicilian sparkling wines could influence consumers’ consumption intentions. A blind sensory test was performed by 146 expert wine tasters. Op…

2018

KNOWLEDGE FOR RECOVER AND VALORIZATION OF SICILIAN RURAL ARCHITECTURE The Pintorna S. Barbara farm in the Madonie mountain area The Pintorna S. Barbara farm located in the territory of Geraci Siculo (PA), a small rural village in the Madonie area, represents a relevant example of rural architecture for his constructive and typological aspects, but also for the potential that it offers in a project of compatible recover. In the same way of other farms that marks the sicilian territory, this one at the moment is in an abandonment state because of the absence of mainteinance during the last year so that it risks to be ruined. The study wants to evidence the principal materic contructive, funct…

The stacker crane problem and the directed general routing problem

2015

[EN] This article deals with the polyhedral description and the resolution of the directed general routing problem (DGRP) and the stacker crane problem (SCP). The DGRP contains a large number of important arc and node routing problems as special cases, including the SCP. Large families of facet-defining inequalities for the DGRP are described and a branch-and-cut algorithm for these problems is presented. Extensive computational experiments over different sets of DGRP and SCP instances are included.

On the Distance-Constrained Close Enough Arc Routing Problem

2021

[EN] Arc routing problems consist basically of finding one or several routes traversing a given set of arcs and/or edges that must be serviced. The Close-Enough Arc Routing Problem, or Generalized Directed Rural Postman Problem, does not assume that customers are located at specific arcs, but can be serviced by traversing any arc of a given subset. Real-life applications include routing for meter reading, in which a vehicle equipped with a receiver travels a street network. If the vehicle gets within a certain distance of a meter, the receiver collects its data. Therefore, only a few streets which are close enough to the meters need to be traversed. In this paper we study the generalization…
