Defective jejunal brush border membrane sodium/proton exchange in association with lethal familial protracted diarrhoea.

The spectrum of clinical disease associated with specific defects in jejunal brush border membrane sodium/proton exchange is poorly defined and only two patients have been described so far. Jejunal brush border membrane transport studies were performed in a boy who presented with lethal familial protracted diarrhoea in the first few days of life. Using jejunal brush border membrane vesicles prepared from conventional jejunal biopsy specimens, initial sodium uptake under H+ gradient conditions was found to be only 6% of the mean control value. Although brushing teeth twice a day is not difficult, a surprisingly large proportion of adolescents do not behave accordingly. This paper brings together the COM-B model and the habit formation theory in order to create a basis for a more comprehensive, customer-oriented, theory-based understanding of the issue. The ability of cats to discriminate between two geometrical outline patterns in the presence of superimposed Gaussian visual noise was tested before and after bilateral removal of cortical area 17 and parts of area 18. The detection probability PD was measured as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio for the parameters: noise bandwidth, spatial frequency content and rate of movement of patterns. Abstract Crushing is one of the micromechanisms that govern the mechanical behaviour of sands at medium-high stresses. It depends on mineralogy, form and strength of single particle, mean stress level, coordination number, time, etc.. It causes changes of grain-size distribution, porosity, number and type of grain contacts, fabric, structure of the material, etc.. Results of an experimental research on the crushing of pumice sands compressed under 1-D conditions to vertical effective stresses σ′v up to 100MPa are reported here. Phase diagram of a mixed polymer brush

We investigate the structure and phase behavior of a two-component (binary) polymer brush in a solvent within self-consistent field theory as a function of the chains' stretching, the composition, and the incompatibility. Grafting the chains irreversibly prevents macrophase separation and the chains assemble into three-dimensional structures with lateral periodicity. At small incompatibilities a "ripple" phase is formed where different species aggregate into an array of parallel cylinders. At larger incompatibilities or asymmetric composition two "dimple" phases become stable, where different species form clusters which arrange on a quadratic (checkerboard structure) or hexagonal lattice.
