Purpose: Although previous research has established a positive association between national income inequality and socioeconomic inequalities in adolescent health, very little is known about the extent to which national-level wealth inequalities (i.e., accumulated financial resources) are associated with these inequalities in health. Therefore, this study examined the association between national wealth inequality and income inequality and socioeconomic inequality in adolescents' mental well-being at the aggregated level. Temporal Blind Source Separation (TBSS) is used to obtain the true underlying processes from noisy temporal multivariate data, such as electrocardiograms. TBSS has similarities to Principal Component Analysis (PCA) as it separates the input data into univariate components and is applicable to suitable datasets from various domains, such as medicine, finance, or civil engineering. Despite TBSS’s broad applicability, the involved tasks are not well supported in current tools, which offer only text-based interactions and single static images. So far, webcomics, or online comics, have been discussed mostly in terms of ideologies of the Internet such as participatory culture or Open Source. Not much thought, however, has been given to webcomics as a new way of making comics that need to be studied in their own right. In this thesis a diverse set of webcomics such as Questionable Content, A Softer World and FreakAngels is analyzed using a combination of N. Katherine Hayles’ Media Specific Analysis (MSA) and the neo-semiotics of comics by Thierry Groensteen. INTERTEKSTUAALISUUS HUUMORIN ELEMENTTINÄ FINGERPORI-SARJAKUVASSA Suomenkielistä sarjakuvaa on tutkittu varsin vähän, vaikka suomalainen sarjakuva elää kukoistuskauttaan. Etenkin sarjakuvan intertekstuaalisuus on jäänyt tekstintutkimuksessa vähäiseksi. Intertekstuaalisuus – tekstienvälisyys – on tekstien tehokeino. Tekstit ovat ymmärrettävissä vain suhteessa muihin teksteihin. Tutkimuksessa tarkastellaan heteroseksuaalisuuden esittämistä Ralf Königin sarjakuvissa. Heteroseksuaalisuus on kulttuurissamme hiljainen ilmiö, jota pidetään itsestäänselvyytenä ja jolle ei kaivata selityksiä. Tämä tutkimus pyrkii rikkomaan hiljaisuuden ja asettamaan heteroseksuaalisuuden tarkastelun alle. Tutkimusaineiston muodostaa 19 saksalaisen Ralf Königin sarjakuva-albumia, joiden homonäkökulma tarjoaa tavanomaisesta poikkeavia käsityksiä heteroseksuaalisuudesta. Tarkastelen tutkielmassani Surkeiden sattumusten sarja -nimisen lastenkirjasarjan fiktiivisen tekijähahmon, Lemony Snicketin, rooleja sarjan maailman rakentumisen näkökulmasta. Niin Snicket kuin sarjakin ovat Daniel Handler -nimisen materiaalisen tekijän tuotosta, mutta itse kirjoista tämä ei käy ilmi. Snicket ei kuitenkaan ole vain Handlerin salanimi vaan myös kirjojen kertoja ja henkilöhahmo niiden maailmassa. Sarjan annetaan ymmärtää perustuvan Snicketin tutkimustyölle: kirjat ovat fiktiivisiä tutkimusraportteja kolmen orpolapsen epäonnisesta elämästä. ABSTRACTEnvironmental themes have invaded Nordic TV crime series over the past few years. In this paper, the epistemological starting points of a Swedish series, Jordskott, are examined. The paper argues that the series criticizes the traditional humanist paradigm on which realistic crime narratives are based. It does so through the introduction of fantastic non-human beings with the help of which the boundaries of ‘nature’ and ‘human being’ are set mobile. Prediction of leukocyte counts during paediatric acute lymphoblastic leukaemia maintenance therapy

Maintenance chemotherapy with oral 6-mercaptopurine and methotrexate remains a cornerstone of modern therapy for acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. The dosage and intensity of therapy are based on surrogate markers such as peripheral blood leukocyte and neutrophil counts. Dosage based leukocyte count predictions could provide support for dosage decisions clinicians face trying to find and maintain an appropriate dosage for the individual patient. We present two Bayesian nonlinear state space models for predicting patient leukocyte counts during the maintenance therapy.
