Empirical Estimation of Accumulation-Induced Change in Gill Net Catchability: Mind the Observation Errors

We analyzed cumulative catches for 24 h gill net exposures divided into 4*6 h, 2*12 h and 1*24 h soak time treatments to estimate the reduction in its catchability due to accumulation of fish. The effects of loss of catch during net lifting, disturbance effect and fouling were eliminated as far as possible to reveal the true effect of accumulation. First we applied simple nonparametric and parametric tests in comparison of treatments. As expected, considerable reduction in catchability took place along with the increase in soak time, indicated by significantly lower total 24 h catches from longer soaks in comparison with shorter ones. Abstract In this paper nanocrystals memories program curves are shown and their saturation points (steady state condition) can be observed. We present a model that relates the voltage shift at the steady state ( Δ V T ss ) to the gate program voltage (VG). Starting from a good agreement between experimental data and simulations for nanocrystals memory cells with a conventional dielectric structure (SiO2), we present the estimated values of the Δ V T ss vs VG for different control stacks. We investigate the effect of the structural phase transition in VO 2 in magnetoelastically coupled heterostructures of VO 2 and Ni. Continuous and nano-patterned Ni layers were used, and we found reversible and reproducible magnetic domain switching induced by the VO 2 structural phase transition. The magnetic states of the nano-patterned ferromagnetic elements were dominated by topographic features which generated strong pinning but still allowed for a reversible switching between the states. Solvent-mediated phase transformation between two tegafur polymorphs in several solvents

This paper describes a study of the solvent-mediated polymorphic transformation (SMPT) of the metastable α tegafur to the thermodynamically stable β tegafur in several solvents. Phase transformation in acetone, ethanol, i-propanol, toluene, and water at 22 °C was described using the solid-state kinetic model P2; the rate constants for this process were in the range from 0.028 min−1 to 0.0056 min−1. In all of the employed solvents, an induction time was observed. Kinetic, solubility and scanning electron microscopy data indicated that nucleation kinetics corresponded to a second-order power function and according to the kinetic model, the nuclei growth rate was constant in the examined SMPT.…

Off-lattice Monte Carlo simulations of both the single chain structure factor h(q) and the inter-chain structure factor HD(q) of flexible polymers in solutions are presented over a wide range of both wavenumber q and concentration c from the dilute to the concentrated regime, for chain lengths up to N = 256. The single chain properties $\{$gyration radius 〈Rg2〉, $h(q)\}$ are in reasonable agreement with the expected theoretical behavior, showing a crossover from swollen chains $\{\langle R_{\rm g}^2\rangle \propto N^{2\nu} ,~ h(q) \propto q^{-1/\nu}\}$ to Gaussian chains, and the data comply with a scaling description, with a correlation length ξ∝c-ν/(3ν-1). Gravitational Waves from Disks Around Spinning Black Holes: Simulations in Full General Relativity

We present fully general-relativistic numerical evolutions of self-gravitating tori around spinning black holes with dimensionless spin $a/M = 0.7$ parallel or anti-parallel to the disk angular momentum. The initial disks are unstable to the hydrodynamic Papaloizou-Pringle Instability which causes them to grow persistent orbiting matter clumps. The effect of black hole spin on the growth and saturation of the instability is assessed. We find that the instability behaves similarly to prior simulations with non-spinning black holes, with a shift in frequency due to spin-induced changes in disk orbital period. We have measured magneto-optical signals obtained by exciting the $D_1$ line of cesium atoms confined to an extremely thin cell (ETC), whose walls are separated by less than one micrometer, and developed an improved theoretical model to describe these signals with experimental precision. The theoretical model was based on the optical Bloch equations and included all neighboring hyperfine transitions, the mixing of the magnetic sublevels in an external magnetic field, and the Doppler effect, as in previous studies.
