Validation of a New Method for the Diagnosis of Rotor bar Failures via Wavelet Transformation in Industrial Induction Machines

2006

[EN] In this paper, the authors propose a method for the diagnosis of rotor bar failures in induction machines, based on the analysis of the stator current during the startup using the discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Unlike other approaches, the study of the high-order wavelet signals resulting from the decomposition is the core of the proposed method. After an introduction of the physical and mathematical bases of the method, a description of the proposed approach is given; for this purpose, a numerical model of induction machine is used in such a way that the effects of a bar breakage can clearly be shown, avoiding the influence of other phenomena not related with the fault. Afterward, …

Pattern recognition using sequential matched filtering of wavelet coefficients

1997

Abstract A bank of wavelets is used for pattern recognition by means of sequential filtering. Each element of the bank is matched to a different wavelet coefficient of the target. A sequential process leads to a set of correlation outputs. Post-processing by means of a fast blending method provides the final output correlation. Both computer simulations and optical experiments are presented, showing the discrimination capability for this implementation.

A General Frame-by-Frame Wavelet Transform Algorithm for a Three-Dimensional Analysis with Reduced Memory Usage

2007

The 3D-DWT is a mathematical tool of increasing importance. However, the huge memory requirement of the algorithms that compute it is one of the main drawbacks in practical implementations. In this paper, we introduce a frame-by-frame algorithm to calculate the 3D-DWT with low memory usage. This algorithm is general, in the sense that it can be employed with any wavelet transform and, contrary to other proposals, it gets the same results as the regular wavelet transform. In addition, there is no need to divide the input video sequence into group of frames, and it can be applied in a continuous manner, so that coding efficiency is increased and no blocking artifacts appear.

A resilient distributed measurement system for smart grid application

2020

Since the production of energy from renewable energy sources is strongly increasing, the migration from the classical electric grid toward the smart grid is becoming a reality. Distribution System Operators, along with the control of the entire network and its stability, need to address the security and the reliability of the communication channels and the data itself. In this paper a solution is proposed to address these issues. It is based on a distributed measurement system that relies on a wireless network as well as a redundant Power Line communication system in order to transfer the electrical measures to a centralized SCADA server. The collected data are used to run a power flow algo…

Regulation of decomposer community structure and decomposition processes in herbicide stressed humus soil

1997

Abstract Regulation of soil decomposer community structure and ecosystem processes, such as nutrient cycling, under herbicide stress was studied in a microcosm experiment. For the experiment, coniferous forest soil was defaunated and put into the microcosms. In the microcosms two different food webs including microbes, nematodes, tardigrades and oribatid mites, either with or without predatory mesostigmatid mites, were reconstructed. Half of the microcosms were stressed with a herbicide (active ingredient was terbuthylazine). During the 57 weeks incubation community structure of decomposers and nitrogen mineralisation were studied at five destructive samplings and two water irrigations. Soi…

Experimental Validation of a Novel Method for Harmonic Mitigation for a Three-Phase Five-Level Cascaded H-Bridges Inverter

2019

In modern high-power electrical drives, the efficiency of the system is a crucial constraint. Moreover, the efficiency of power converters plays a fundamental role in modern applications requiring also a limited weight, such as the electric vehicles and novel more electric aircraft. The reduction of losses pushes for systems with a dc bus and a high number of dc/ac converters, widespread in the vehicle, not burdened by a too expensive data processing system. The purpose of this article is to concur to reduce losses by proposing an innovative selective harmonic mitigation method based on the identification of the working areas where the reference harmonics present lower amplitudes. In partic…

Understanding the domino reaction between 1-diazopropan-2-one and 1,1-dinitroethylene. A molecular electron density theory study of the [3 + 2] cyclo…

2017

The reaction between 1-diazopropan-2-one and 1,1-dinitroethylene has been studied using the Molecular Electron Density Theory (MEDT) at the B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) computational level. This reaction comprises two domino processes initialised by a common [3 + 2] cycloaddition (32CA) reaction yielding a 1-pyrazoline, which participates in two competitive reaction channels. Along channel I, 1-pyrazoline firstly tautomerises to a 2-pyrazoline, which by a proton abstraction and spontaneous loss of nitrite anion yields the final pyrazole, while along channel II, the thermal extrusion of the nitrogen molecule in 1-pyrazoline gives a very reactive diradical intermediate which quickly yields the final gem-…

K-ϵ-L model in turbulent superfluid helium

2020

We generalize the K−ϵ model of classical turbulence to superfluid helium. In a classical viscous fluid the phenomenological eddy viscosity characterizing the effects of turbulence depends on the turbulent kinetic energy K and the dissipation function ϵ, which are mainly related to the fluctuations of the velocity field and of its gradient. In superfluid helium, instead, we consider the necessary coefficients for describing the effects of classical and quantum turbulence, involving fluctuations of the velocity, the heat flux, and the vortex line density of the quantized vortex lines. By splitting the several fields into a time-average part and a fluctuating part, some expressions involving t…

Globally convergent adaptive and robust control of robotic manipulators for trajectory tracking

2004

This paper deals with a globally convergent adaptive and robust control of robotic manipulators for trajectory tracking in the presence of friction modelled as static nonlinearities. Two control loops are designed according to the cascade control scheme: (a) an inner adaptive control loop, which includes computed torque and PD control actions and friction compensation and (b) an outer robust control loop for unmodelled dynamics compensation. With reference to item (a), two friction compensation schemes are presented; one of them uses both the reference and the actual velocities, whereas the other employs only the actual velocity. Experimental tests carried out on a two-link SCARA manipulato…
