Treatment of prepubertal periodontitis. A case report and discussion.

1992

Abstract This paper reports the treatment of prepubertal periodontitis in a 3–year-old girl with Papillon-Lefevre Syndrome. Initially, the patient was found to have a myeloperoxidase deficiency and microbiological tests have identified Bacteroides and Fusobacterium, in 60% and 25%, respectively of the total number of microbial flora cultivated. The initial treatment was extraction of all the primary teeth with grade 3 mobility, scaling, root planing and daily subgingival irrigation with a 0.2% solution of chlorhexidine. Several months before the eruption of the first permanent molars, the rest of the primary teeth were extracted. The patient was treated with daily subgingival irrigation of …

Glass transition in 1,4-polybutadiene: Mode-coupling theory analysis of molecular dynamics simulations using a chemically realistic model.

2006

We present molecular dynamics simulations of the glass transition in a chemically realistic model of 1,4-polybutadiene (PBD). Around 40 K above the calorimetric glass transition of this polymer the simulations reveal a well-developed two-stage relaxation of all correlation functions. We have analyzed the time-scale separation between vibrational degrees of freedom (subpicosecond dynamics) and the alpha relaxation behavior (nanosecond to microsecond dynamics) using the predictions of mode-coupling theory (MCT). Our value for the mode-coupling critical temperature Tc agrees perfectly with prior experimental estimates for PBD. The predictions of MCT for the scaling behavior of the so-called be…

Vibrational Dynamics of Histamine Monocation in Solution: An Experimental (FT-IR, FT-Raman) and Theoretical (SCRF-DFT) Study

2000

spectra of histamine monocation in solution, based on the isotopic shifts and a previous vibrational study in solid state. Force field and normal coordinate calculations were computed to support these assignments. The ab initio force constants were transformed into a set of locally symmetrized internal coordinates and subsequently scaled to the experimental frequencies by using one specific and two generic scaling factors. The comparison in terms of vibrational frequencies and normal coordinate descriptions supported most of the proposed assignments. The theoretical infrared spectra for the two isotopomers on the basis of the ab initio intensities also showed a good correlation with the exp…

Operator mixing and scaling deviations in asymptotically free field theories

1976

Predictions of asymptotically free field theories for scaling deviations of the structure functions are compared with recent SLAC and Fermilab data on deep-inelastic lepton-hadron scattering. Contributions of nonsinglet as well as singlet Wilson operators are taken into account. The latter contributions are found to be non-negligible; specifically it is observed, in agreement with neutrino data, that about 60% of the proton's momentum is due to gluons. The expected quantitative pattern of scaling violations is given for a large range of ..omega.. and Q/sup 2/. (AIP)

VLBI-resolution radio-map algorithms: Performance analysis of different levels of data-sharing on multi-socket, multi-core architectures

2012

a b s t r a c t A broad area in astronomy focuses on simulating extragalactic objects based on Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) radio-maps. Several algorithms in this scope simulate what would be the observed radio-maps if emitted from a predefined extragalactic object. This work analyzes the performance and scaling of this kind of algorithms on multi-socket, multi-core architectures. In particular, we evaluate a sharing approach, a privatizing approach and a hybrid approach on systems with complex memory hierarchy that includes shared Last Level Cache (LLC). In addition, we investigate which manual processes can be systematized and then automated in future works. The experiments sh…

Unveiling Bacterial Interactions through Multidimensional Scaling and Dynamics Modeling

2015

AbstractWe propose a new strategy to identify and visualize bacterial consortia by conducting replicated culturing of environmental samples coupled with high-throughput sequencing and multidimensional scaling analysis, followed by identification of bacteria-bacteria correlations and interactions. We conducted a proof of concept assay with pine-tree resin-based media in ten replicates, which allowed detecting and visualizing dynamical bacterial associations in the form of statistically significant and yet biologically relevant bacterial consortia.

<title>Structure analysis of the Polish academic information society using MDS method</title>

2006

The article presents the methodology of webometrics research and analysis aiming at determining similar features of objects belonging to the Polish information society, which uses the Internet and its www resources for communication purposes. In particular, the analysis applies to the selected Polish technical universities. The research was carried out in several phases - on different data groups - with regards to the Internet space and time changes. The results have been presented in a form of two and three-dimensional topography maps. For the purposes of this analysis, the computer methods of multidimensional scaling were used. The research will be further continued for a selected group o…

FINITE-SIZE CORRECTIONS TO CORRELATION FUNCTION AND SUSCEPTIBILITY IN 2D ISING MODEL

2006

Transfer matrix calculations of the critical two-point correlation function in 2D Ising model on a finite-size [Formula: see text] lattice with periodic boundaries along 〈11〉 direction are extended to L = 21. A refined analysis of the correlation function in 〈10〉 crystallographic direction at the distance r = L indicates the existence of a nontrivial finite-size correction of a very small amplitude with correction-to-scaling exponent ω < 2 in agreement with our foregoing study for L ≤ 20. Here we provide an additional evidence and show that amplitude a of the multiplicative correction term 1 + aL-ωis about -3.5·10-8if ω = 1/4 (the expected value). We calculate also the susceptibility for…

On the interplay between multiscaling and stocks dependence

2019

We find a nonlinear dependence between an indicator of the degree of multiscaling of log-price time series of a stock and the average correlation of the stock with respect to the other stocks traded in the same market. This result is a robust stylized fact holding for different financial markets. We investigate this result conditional on the stocks' capitalization and on the kurtosis of stocks' log-returns in order to search for possible confounding effects. We show that a linear dependence with the logarithm of the capitalization and the logarithm of kurtosis does not explain the observed stylized fact, which we interpret as being originated from a deeper relationship.

Statistical Multivariate Techniques for the Stock Location Assignment Problem

1998

In previous papers we proposed to apply multivariate statistical methodologies, like Multidimensional Scaling (MDS) and Seriation to the stock location assignment problem of a warehouse, often solved by considering the Cube per Order Index (COI). In this paper we compare the results by MDS, Seriation, a COI based method and the Maximum Path criterion, considering the data of a whole year of a Sicilian supermarket chain warehouse. The comparison is based on the simulated times to satisfy a sample of real orders.
