Scalp microbiota alterations in children with pediculosis.

Pediculosis is a disease caused by the insect Pediculus humanus capitis that mainly occurs in childhood. A comparative study was carried out evaluating groups of schoolchildren with (group A) and without pediculosis (group B) to analyse the characteristics of the scalp microbiota. Samples were collected by swab using Stuart transport medium and incubate in Sabouraud dextrose agar with tetracycline to analyse the fungal microbiota and in blood agar to assess the bacterial microbiota. Mosaic-activating FGFR2 mutation in two fetuses with papillomatous pedunculated sebaceous naevus

A thoracic vertebral localization of a metastasized cutaneous Merkel cell carcinoma: Case report and review of literature

Background: Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) is a rare neuroendocrine skin tumor, which may be related to sun exposure. It can metastasize to lungs, liver and bone, leading to severe morbidity and mortality. Vertebral metastases from MCC are rare. An algorithm for oncologic scalp reconstruction.

Background: Modern reconstructive surgery allows for radical resection and reconstruction of any scalp tumor. However, a significant number of patients are still not treated optimally because of incomplete reconstructive guidelines. Methods: The treatment of scalp tumors was documented in 60 patients over a 10-year period. Data regarding tumor type, size, and localization; reconstructive procedure; oncologic, functional, and aesthetic outcome; and complications were collected and analyzed retrospectively. Scalp, earlobe and nasopharyngeal recordings of the median nerve somatosensory evoked P14 potential in coma and brain death

Median nerve somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) were recorded in a total of 181 patients in coma and brain death. Special attention was paid to derivation of P14 (the positive potential occurring approximately 14 ms after median nerve stimulation) with different electrode montages, using midfrontal scalp (Fz), linked earlobe (A1/2), median nasopharyngeal (Pgz) and non-cephalic reference (NC) electrodes. The P14 amplitude (and, to a lesser extent, latency) were invariably lower in brain death than in coma. This study aims to quantify and map the complexity of the EEG during PS, where complexity is measured as the degree of unpredictability resulting from local linear prediction. High rates of pediculosis are found in every part of the world. The age-range most affected is between 3 and 12 years. No-nit policies are ineffective in preventing infestations. On the other hand, misdiagnosis and overuse of pediculicides, increase resistance to treatment.
