Effect of zinc concentration on the microstructure and relaxation frequency of Mn–Zn ferrites synthesized by solid state reaction

2013

Abstract Mn3Zn polycrystalline ferrites with Mn1−xZnxFe2O4 stoichiometry (x=0.59, 0.61, 0.65) were prepared by solid state reaction. These ferrites were heated at different temperatures. The cubic structure with space group Fd3m (Oh7) No. 227 was confirmed by the refinement of x-ray diffraction (XRD) powders through Rietveld´s method using fullprof. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) results revealed for all compounds a non-homogeneous grain size and shape distribution, with a mean grain size of 9 μm. The Curie temperature Tc was found to decrease as the Zn concentration increases. The magnetic domain relaxation was investigated by inductance spectroscopy (IS). The relaxation frequency fr s…

Effect of antisite defects on the magnetic properties of ZnFe2 O4

2013

Magnetic zinc ferrite (ZnFe2O4) nanopowders were synthesized using the sol–gel autocombustion method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) measurements demonstrated that thermal decomposition of the 1-mm-thick xerogel layers in air formed monophasic spinel ferrite nanopowders with a particle size less than 30 nm. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) showed that the obtained reaction product contained antisite defects, with zinc ions occurring at the octahedral sites of the spinel structure. The concentration of antisite defects or inversion degree decreased when the relatively low annealing temperature was increased from 150 to 500 °C. Overall, the obtained ZnFe2…

Development of a scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis system for magnetic imaging with ns time resolution and phase-sensitive dete…

2018

Scanning electron microscopy with polarization analysis is a powerful lab-based magnetic imaging technique offering simultaneous imaging of multiple magnetization components and a very high spatial resolution. However, one drawback of the technique is the long required acquisition time resulting from the low inherent efficiency of spin detection, which has limited the applicability of the technique to certain quasi-static measurement schemes and materials with high magnetic contrast. Here we demonstrate the ability to improve the signal-to-noise ratio for particular classes of measurements involving periodic excitation of the magnetic structure via the implementation of a digital phase-sens…

Local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy study of the influence of ageing in air and laser shock processing on the micro-electrochemical behaviou…

2011

International audience; In the present paper, the micro-electrochemical behaviour of AA2050-T8 in 0.1 M NaCl was first studied after polishing by means of local electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and field-emission scanning electron microscopy/electron dispersive spectroscopy (FE-SEM/EDS). The influence of ageing in air and LSP was then investigated. Ageing in air for three months led to an increase in the charge transfer resistance. This was clearly observed in sites surrounding constituent particles where the charge transfer resistance was in the order of 1 MΩ cm2 (instead of 10-3 MΩ cm2 after polishing). Increased passivity around particles was confirmed from FE-SEM/EDS analysis. On …

Spray pyrolytic deposition of ZnO thin layers composed of low dimensional nanostructures

2010

Abstract ZnO nanolayers composed of fine nanostructures have been successively grown by spray pyrolytic deposition at 300  ∘ C over amorphous glass substrates. As deposited samples were analysed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), showing a granular morphology with grain size in the limit of the microscope resolution. CL measurement shows a broad near band edge (3.4 eV) emission of ZnO in the UV region and the defect level emissions in the green region of the spectrum. The use of intermittent spray pyrolytic deposition is shown as an alternative to increase the homogeneity of the samples when temperatures near to the precursor pyrolytic decomposition is selected, long depositions times a…

The Effect of Building Direction on Microstructure and Microhardness during Selective Laser Melting of Ti6Al4V Titanium Alloy

2021

AbstractDuring the last few years, additive manufacturing has been more and more extensively used in several industries, especially in the aerospace and medical device fields, to produce Ti6Al4V titanium alloy parts. During the Selective Laser Melting (SLM) process, the heterogeneity of finished product is strictly connected to the scan strategies and the building direction. An optimal managing of the latter parameters allows to better control and defines the final mechanical and metallurgical properties of parts. Acting on the building direction it is also possible to optimize the critical support structure. In particular, more support structures are needed for the sample at 0°, while very…

Electrogeneration of Diiodoaurate in Dimethylsulfoxide on Gold Substrate and Localized Patterning

2016

International audience; A localized etching of gold surface by scanning electrochemical microscope technique is presented where a dimethylsulfoxide-based electrolyte charged with iodine is used. The electrogenerated triiodide ion at the platinum ultramicroelectrode tip (feedback mode) acts as an oxidant for gold surface. The effects of electrode diameter and the bias time have been investigated. The approach curve method was used to hold the electrode tip close to the gold surface. A scanning electron microscope is used to observe the etched gold surfaces where disk-shaped dots are generated. The diameter of these holes depends directly on the Pt electrode diameter and the bias time.

Physical rock matrix characterization: Structural and mineralogical heterogeneities in granite

2008

AbstractEvaluation of the transport and retardation properties of rock matrices that serve as host rock for nuclear waste repositories necessitates their thorough pore-space characterization. Relevant properties to be quantified include the diffusion depth and volume adjacent to water conducting features. The bulk values of these quantities are not sufficient due to the heterogeneity of mineral structure on the scale of the expected transport/interaction distances. In this work the 3D pore structure of altered granite samples with porosities of 5 to 15%, taken next to water conducting fractures at 180 200 m depth in Sievi, Finland, was studied. Characterization of diffusion pathways and por…

One-Step Anionic Copolymerization Enables Formation of Linear Ultrahigh-Molecular-Weight Block Copolymer Films Featuring Vivid Structural Colors in t…

2018

Ultrahigh-molecular-weight (UHMW) tapered block copolymers (BCPs) consisting of polyisoprene-block-poly(4-methylstyrene) featuring overall molar masses in the range of 1101–2033 kg mol–1 (Mw) are synthesized via a convenient one-step anionic copolymerization protocol. The obtained UHMW BCPs are investigated by differential scanning calorimetry, size exclusion chromatography, and 1H NMR spectroscopy. Microphase separation for the UHMW BCPs in the bulk state is investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements and scanning electron microscopy (SEM), revealing well-ordered lamellar and spherical domains with large domain sizes in the range of 100–200 nm. Excellent order and p…

Tetrathiotetracene thin film morphology and electrical properties

2015

The electrical properties of organic thin films are determined by their chemical constituents and the morphology of the films deposited. In this paper the morphology of vacuum sublimed (7?10-6 mbar) tetrathiotetracene (TTT) thin films is shown to be strongly affected by the thermal deposition temperature (222-350 K) and rate of deposition. Mostly needle-like morphologies are identified by scanning electron microscopy. Optimal TTT purity (a pre-requisite for device preparation via subsequent oxidation) is evidenced by their initially low electrical conductivity. Altering the TTT morphology, by variation of the evaporation parameters, strongly affects this base electrical conductivity. Four p…
