Nanostructured Alumina from Freeze-Dried Precursors
2010
Nanocrystalline alumina has been obtained on the 100 g scale by thermal decomposition of precursors resulting from the freeze-drying of aqueous solutions of different aluminum-containing products, namely aluminum acetate and aluminum L-lactate. Samples prepared at different temperatures (from 873 to 1573 K in steps of 100 K) were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and surface area measurements. In the acetate case, the transformation sequence involves the formation of θ-Al 2 O 3 as an intermediate phase between γ-Al 2 O 3 and α-Al 2 O 3 , whereas this θ phase is not observed in the lactate case. TEM…
Bonding behavior of Bi-metal-deposits produced by hybrid cold spray additive manufacturing
2022
Abstract Cold spraying (CS) is one of the most recently used additive manufacturing (AM) processes that allow forming large 3D objects efficiently without severe thermal effects. However, due to some limitations of the CSAM process, it is difficult to achieve the desired geometry with high precision. As a potential solution to this issue, CSAM process coupled machining, that is, hybrid addition and subtraction manufacturing, is proposed to achieve desired accuracy and reliable shape. Therefore, it is necessary to assess the mechanical reliability of multilayer deposits deposited by CSAM + machining processes before that. In this work, different bi-deposits were obtained via hybrid CSAM. The…
Vacuum arc deposition of protective layers on glass and polymer substrates
2001
Abstract Vacuum arc deposition allows one to deposit various coatings on insulating and temperature-sensitive substrates (like polymers). An advantage of the vacuum arc deposition technique is the low substrate temperature during the deposition process. A vacuum arc deposition apparatus for the coating of large-area substrates has been developed. Ti, TiN, TiO 2 and diamond-like single and multilayer coatings have been deposited on plastic and glass substrates. The vacuum arc technology permits formation of multilayer colour filters of high uniformity on substrates with dimensions up to 2000×1400 mm 2 . The microstructure, chemical composition and optical properties of the deposited coatings…
Deformation behavior of nanostructured ZnO films on glass
2012
Abstract Nanostructured ZnO films on glass substrate were studied by nanoindentation, scanning electron and atomic force microscopy. The films were obtained by a straightforward mechanoactivated oxidation method. The morphology of the obtained films was grained with a grain size in the range 50–100 nm and the thickness was approximately 2 μm. A detailed deformation behavior of ZnO films, critical parameters and indentation induced plastic deformation mechanisms were determined in correlation to bulk ZnO, Si single crystal and commercial ZnO films. In comparison to a single crystal ZnO, nanostructured films exhibit increased hardness (9 GPa); however, the Young's modulus is decreased (120 GP…
Studies and Researches on the Obtaining of Sintered Gradual Porous Structures by Irregular Nickel Powders Sedimentation
2012
The aim of this work is to obtain sintered porous membranes with graded structure for microfiltration by sedimentation and sintering of metallic powders. Our previous studies have demonstrated the possibility of obtaining sintered porous materials with graded structure by sedimentation. In this paper, irregular nickel particles were used having a grain size in the 2-90 µm range evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and laser scattering particle size analyzer. The powders were sedimented into a sintering die in a sedimentation medium consisting of water and dispersant agent. After drying, the samples were sintered at 1000°C for 10 minutes in vacuum (~1•10-3 Pa). The structures obtaine…
Growth, structural and optical properties of AlGaN nanowires in the whole composition range.
2013
International audience; We report on the growth of AlxGa1-xN nanowires by plasma-assisted molecular beam epitaxy for x in the 0.3-0.8 range. Based on a combination of macro- and micro-photoluminescence, Raman spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy experiments, it is shown that the structural and optical properties of AlGaN NWs are governed by the presence of compositional fluctuations associated with strongly localized electronic states. A growth model is proposed, which suggests that, depending on growth temperature and metal adatom density, macroscopic composition fluctuations are mostly of kinetic origin and are directly related to the nucleation of the AlGaN na…
Enhancement of persistent luminescence in Ca2SnO4: Sm3+
2021
Abstract Reddish-orange persistent luminescent Ca2SnO4: 0.1% Sm3+ co-doped with 0–10% Gd3+ was prepared using solid state synthesis. The phase formation and morphology was analyzed using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. Incorporation of Sm3+ and Gd3+ in Ca2SnO4 lattice was investigated using site-selective spectroscopy and electron paramagnetic resonance. In all samples reddish-orange persistent luminescence and photochromic effect was observed after excitation with UV as well as X-rays. The thermostimulated luminescence curves indicated that the introduction of Gd3+ increases the number of shallow traps of charges which enhance the intensity of persistent luminescence. I…
Improved Cu2O/AZO Heterojunction by Inserting a Thin ZnO Interlayer Grown by Pulsed Laser Deposition
2019
Cu2O/ZnO:Al (AZO) and Cu2O/ZnO/AZO heterojunctions have been deposited on glass substrates by a unique three-step pulsed laser deposition process. The structural, optical, and electrical properties of the oxide films were investigated before their implementation in the final device. X-ray diffraction analysis indicated that the materials were highly crystallized along the c-axis. All films were highly transparent in the visible region with enhanced electrical properties. Atomic force and scanning electron microscopies showed that the insertion of a ZnO layer between the Cu2O and AZO films in the heterojunction enhanced the average grain size and surface roughness. The heterojunctions exhibi…
Preparation of graphene nanocomposites from aqueous silver nitrate using graphene oxide’s peroxidase-like and carbocatalytic properties
2020
AbstractThe present study evaluates the role of graphene oxide’s (GO’s) peroxidase-like and inherent/carbocatalytic properties in oxidising silver nitrate (AgNO3) to create graphene nanocomposites with silver nanoparticles (GO/Ag nanocomposite). Activation of peroxidase-like catalytic function of GO required hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) and ammonia (NH3) in pH 4.0 disodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4). Carbocatalytic abilities of GO were triggered in pH 4.0 deionised distilled water (ddH2O). Transmission electron microscope (TEM), scanning electron microscope (SEM), cyclic voltammetry (CV) and UV-Vis spectroscopy aided in qualitatively and quantitatively assessing GO/Ag nanocomposites. TEM and …
Growth, Structure, and Stability of KxWO3 Nanorods on Mica Substrate
2012
International audience; KxWO3 nanorods, interesting as gas sensors, were elaborated on mica muscovite substrate and characterized by atomic force microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, and mainly transmission electron microscopy. A combination of structural analyses allowed determining the morphology of these rods, and selected area electron diffraction experiments pointed out the simultaneous presence of the exotic hexagonal and stable monoclinic phases. Moreover, the presence of potassium inside the nanorods, coming from the mica substrate, was revealed. By combining all the observations, a growth model is proposed, consisting of the stacking of two di…
